Applications are sought from individuals who are qualified to Degree or minimum HNC/HND level, or can demonstrate appropriate relevant experience, to work as a full-time APPLICATIONS ENGINEER.
Working for the majority of the time in Worksop, the role is to support the Group operating companies by taking day-to-day responsibility for the technical aspects of the interface between Marketing, Commercial and Technical activities relating to the products.
Reporting to the Head of Applications Engineering and Support, briefly the main activities are:
* Advise on technical suitability and availability of existing designs for new applications, so that Commercial departments can ensure that components supplied will be fit for the customers’ purposes.
* Identify aspects of customer requirements which are not met by existing systems so that new product design work can be initiated. In consultation with the Head of Applications Engineering and Support, prepare new designs and sketches prior to detailed work by design draughtsmen.
* Review drawings with respect to function and applicability to customer requirements, and pass on for final approval.
* Respond to general technical enquiries relating to specific product ranges fromthe Group companies, and from railways and contractors, visiting and liaising with them as necessary, to maintain close working relationships with the market. This may require frequent and short-notice international travel.
* Respond to general technical enquiries relating to specific product ranges from the Group companies from sub-contract suppliers, visiting and liaising with them as necessary, to maintain close working relationships with the market, and reporting back to the relevant Pandrol Group operating company.
* Prepare sketches or 3-D models from which Design Draughtsmen can produce detailed drawings of new components and assemblies; Carry out design and drawing tasks as required by the Head of Applications Engineering and Support.
* Providing technical support for the fastening installations by visiting Customers, Consultants, Sleeper Manufacturers and Contractors who are involved in projects, predominantly in overseas markets, where products have been, or will be used. Some Technical support activity in UK may also be required from time to time.
* overseas travel for approx 25% of the year, and working from other locations in the UK.
Applicants should have a minimum of 5 years relevant previous experience in an engineering-based role and a thorough understanding of general engineering principles. You must be able to demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively at all levels in customer organisations and the ability to manage Engineering situations at a technical and practical level, with a professional attitude and be an ambassador for the Company.
