Requirements:

A hands-on background within electronics assembly essential
An understanding of software and firmware interaction for embedded control systems
Familiarity with TCP/IP based communications very advantageous
Experience at fault finding and repairing down to component level

Responsibilities:

Product installation & upgrades of firmware/software for Power Distribution Units
Assembly of electro-mechanical units
Troubleshooting and repair of electrical assemblies using computer controlled functional test equipment
Deliver technical product training to internal sales personnel as required
Pre and Post sales technical support
Gather and Analyse test data and customer feedback
Provide secondary backup support services as required

We have an exciting opportunity for a hands-on Mechanical Engineering Design Manager with some knowledge of electronics and software to join our market leading and expanding operation. You will advise on, influence and spearhead the mechanical engineering aspects of design projects to suit contract specifications. This will predominantly involve rotating machinery.

THE COMPANY:

We design, manufacture and supply an extensive range of engine testing systems in the automotive, aerospace, marine and industrial markets. Our test systems consist of a variety of engine and chassis dynamometers and high technology control and data acquisition software, along with test stands and ancillary equipment for the test cell. THE ROLE OF DESIGN MANAGER (MECHANICAL ENGINEERING):

- Lead the Mechanical Design Team of some 6 people supplemented on individual projects by sub-contractors across multi-disciplines: mechanical, electrical, electronic and software.
- Produce layout and detail drawings using SolidWorks or PTC Creo or AutoCad.
- Analyse, layout and report on material / component selection.
- Compile supporting engineering calculations for all designs.

EXPERIENCE & ATTRIBUTES NEEDED BY THE DESIGN MANAGER (MECHANICAL ENGINEERING):

- Probably HNC/HND or Degree qualified in a relevant Engineering subject.
- Good knowledge of engineering processes across disciplines.
- Likely to be familiar with rotating machinery.
- CAD experienced preferably in 3D CAD.
- Skill to lead significant design projects and the ability to guide and mentor others.

THE BENEFITS:

The salary is likely to be in the range £45k to £55k entirely dependent on experience plus all the usual benefits you would expect from a world-class employer. However the agreement of terms will not be an obstacle in securing the right candidate.
