Our client is a leading Further Education College providing a comprehensive range of vocational, academic, professional and higher education courses. The College also delivers the Offender Learning and Skills Service (OLASS) Phase 4 contracts for East Midlands, West Midlands and South Central, providing education to 35 prisons across these 3 regions.

HMP Winchester comprises 2 sites, Winchester (Category B) and Westhill (category C). Both sites work with adults from a variety of backgrounds. The College delivers a broad curriculum encompassing vocational training, functional skills, employability and personal and social development skills. This provision is delivered within the Education Departments and across the sites including within vocational workshops.
This is an ideal position for a creative and enthusiastic individual with current knowledge of Functional Skills in English and Mathematics together with experience of managing and delivering programmes in this curriculum area. The post holder will be responsible for leading a range of Functional Skills programmes from Entry Level to Level 2.

As the successful candidate you will have:

A degree or equivalent qualification
A full teaching qualification (QTLS as appropriate)
Assessor/Verifier Awards (desirable)
Teaching/training experience in a relevant discipline/ subject area and up-to-date knowledge of this
Proven experience of line managing staff within a curriculum area
Evidence of providing high quality effective programmes
Be able to teach creatively, adapting to the needs of a variety of students and be willing to explore new teaching and learning strategies
Experience of identifying, developing and sharing resources focused on teaching and learning
Experience of working with students who may have little experience of education and training.
Knowledge of current relevant initiatives within FE, and the vocational area of responsibility (desirable)
Knowledge of ICLT and/or willing to learn
Accuracy and precision in written presentation

As an Additional Learning Support Tutor you will be working with offenders on a 1:1 or small group basis providing support for them to achieve their qualifications. You will also be coordinating Additional Learning Support activities and completing data returns at a designated prison. Within your range of duties you will also use your range of skills to promote learning support across the prison, develop learning materials and provide guidance and support to the Additional Learning Support Workers.

As an Additional Learning Support Worker you will be working with offenders on a 1:1 or small group basis providing support for them to achieve their qualifications. This typically might involve assisting with numeracy and literacy, portfolio building, exam support and generally supporting with a diverse range of needs, under the guidance and support of other teaching staff.

As the successful candidate you will have:

Have a good basic general education including GCSE (or equivalent) Maths and English at Grade C or above
Have a commitment to work towards a Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or PTLLS (or DTLLS for ALS Tutor Post)
Have experience of working in a learning environment
Have experience of supporting students or assessing or training
Have experience of working with students who may have little experience of education and training.
Have a knowledge of learning disabilities
Have good ICLT skills and willing to develop further
Have good communication skills both written and verbal
Have a commitment to students and students’ success
