Lightning Test Technician/Engineer

£20,000 - £40,000 depending upon experience

A leading defence and aerospace company is seeking a Lightning Test Technician/Engineer with an interest in lightning or high voltage to assume responsibility for lightning testing and produce test reports whilst working with the technical team to support the customer's test and development programmes.

The postholder will carry out direct and indirect lightning tests on and off the site over a wide range off current levels up to 100kA. Responsibilities will setting-up rigs and test equipment for the tests and write the proposals and test reports. The role requires management of lightning test projects and includes interfacing with clients.

Candidates for this role can demonstrate competence gained from (typically) a test role in an electrical environment including experience with diagnostic equipment and working with high current and voltage. Candidates will be degree qualified in a relevant technical discipline and would ideally possess a familiarity with use of capacitors and pulse generators. An understanding of lightning and/or EMC is desirable but not essential. The successful candidate will possess really good team skills and pay great attention to safety procedures. Needless to say you will have initiative and good communication skills.

IT Support Engineer

Technical requirements
You have a wide IT skill set including an excellent working knowledge of Linux (Red Hat EL5/EL, SuSe 11), Windows 2003/2008, Oracle 10 including administration, UNIX utilities, IIS, Bash/sh., SQL and Python.
You have a good knowledge of standard computer hardware.
You have a good knowledge of network technologies.
You have experience of running and writing SQL and bash shell scripts.
You have experience of problem solving in general and in-depth analysis of large log and text files. Ideally you will have experience of your ability to analyse large data volumes, which may be in text or binary format, in a Linux environment.

THE ROLE
This is a role for a highly motivated person who will help to install, configure and provide first line support for a number of bespoke applications running under Linux and Windows platforms.

THE TEAM
The Global Client Support team work together with our partners around the world in 35 countries providing first line support. We are a multi- disciplinary team with a wide range and depth of skills in IT hardware, software, operations management and measurement technology.
You will work with a team of 4 other Support Engineers to support our panel operations people across the globe in using our audience metering and software products to provide a 24/7 service.

SO, WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?
You will assess, resolve and document client issues and requests on a daily basis.
You will be performing processing system upgrades and back-ups.
You will be responsible for system testing.
You will help to install, configure and provide first line support for a number of bespoke applications running under Linux and Windows platforms.
You will be conducting systems performance analysis.
You will develop within the role so that you can work independently on our out of hour’s helpline.
