Shift Maintenance Engineer/ Shift Technician
£18,000 - £24,000 per annum
(Working 12 hour shift pattern)
The Company
Our Client is a leading UK manufacturer of flexographic printed films and bags for the packaging of retail food products. With an extensive blue chip customer base . We are currently looking to recruit Shift Technicians within our Engineering Department to support the manufacturing process.
The Role
Reporting to the Engineering Manager you will be responsible for ensuring that machine breakdowns and preventative maintenance are completed in a timely manner. You will ensure that procedures are followed and that documentation is completed as necessary. You will work closely with Departmental Managers and shift personnel to ensure that production requirements are met, whilst maintaining the highest standards of Health and Safety at all times.
The Person
You will be qualified to electrical NVQ 3 level or equivalent and have knowledge and experience of working within a manufacturing environment. Openings are available to those who have not yet had the opportunity to complete a qualification but experienced commercial electrical machinery, a strong technical aptitude is desired should this be the case. You will have the ability to work using your own initiative and be able to communicate at all levels. You will be self-motivated and thrive on working in a challenging environment.
The Package
The position offers a salary of 18k to 24k depending on knowledge and experience. There is also a Company pension scheme, profit share scheme and share save scheme in operation.
The Company will also ensure that you receive continuous training and development within the role.

As part of the 47 strong engineering division, your role as Maintenance Fitter / Technician within the multi-functional engineering / TPM team is vital to the smooth and uninterrupted running of the plant, and will directly contribute to overall cost benefits, quality and efficiency of the factory.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for providing plant wide maintenance service and mechanical repairs, to the highest possible standards, while adhering to the principals of 5s, and applying TPM tools and techniques to help promote continuous improvement throughout the factory.
Working on a 4 on 4 off shift pattern, in addition to the above you will have a broad range of duties, including:
Providing support for machine setup and changeovers.
Design, fabrication and machining of parts and structures.
Departmental support.
Daily liaison with Engineering Manager / Shift Team Leader.
Flexible, self motivated and able to work on your own initiative, ideally with a recognised engineering qualification / apprenticeship, you will be a results orientated all rounder, with a strong appreciation of health & safety, and a hunger to learn and develop.
Your experience as a Maintenance Fitter / Maintenance Technician / Maintenance Engineer could have been gained in any manufacturing environment, but you must be prepared to work in a large factory environment, and possess a knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatics systems, and a reasonable degree of computer literacy.
You will live within easy commuting distance of M1 Junction 22, including Leicestershire, Staffordshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and the West Midlands.

As a hands-on engineer you will be responsible for both undertaking advanced and expert level trouble shooting, fault find, diagnosis, repair, maintenance and reconditioning activities on a diverse range of machinery and mechanical equipment including motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems and production machinery and equipment, necessitating working both autonomously and as part of a team within a busy maintenance environment on both planned preventative and reactive maintenance activities, as well as performing systems and methodology analysis and improvement duties on an ongoing basis. In addition to providing leadership and assistance to less experienced engineers, you will perform a range of project engineering and management duties as required, and undertake expert level trouble shooting and repair activities on a range of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical and electronic control equipment, as well as resolving in depth software problems and performing R&D activities into both products and procedures.
Able to actively utilise Continuous Improvement and Six Sigma to progress the maintenance function, you will analyse manufacturing maintenance systems and methodologies and recommend new methods of maintenance work and will study and investigate technical systems, tools and inventions that can be implemented to improve maintenance practices and bring TPM to their customers, and once conclusions have been reached, you will submit your recommendations to the Management team prior to enhancement and modification implementation. Additionally you will be responsible for the creation of both reports and associated training manuals in support of site recommendations, and will prepare detailed cost analysis for new equipment and repair / rebuild proposals, as well as complex technical reports on cost savings and technical innovations as required and associated project documentation and maintenance paperwork where appropriate, therefore exceptional written and verbal communication skills are a prerequisite for the position.
As the ethos of the company is a combination of dynamic, proactive, passionate and committed, you will demonstrate similar values and aspirations and possess the drive and determination to deliver the highest levels of customer service and support again and again, and due to the varied and challenging nature of the position, will be qualified to at least Degree level in a relevant engineering discipline and will have successfully completed a technical apprenticeship encompassing electrical, mechanical or manufacturing aspects alongwith a minimum of 5 years dedicated and relevant experience within a commercial environment, with (mechanical) experience of vibration analysis or laser operations or electrical and electronic systems allied with special purpose machinery and equipment.
Essentially you will possess a driving licence and will be able to operate Mori Seiki CNC controls in maintenance mode, and be able to demonstrate an advanced level of understanding of complex operating systems. Familiarity with CMMS (SAP preferred) and the MS suite of packages will prove distinctly advantageous.
