Farrer Barnes has been exclusively retained to recruit an interim Financial Controller/ Head of Finance for a wholly owned subsidiary of a US Group. The role will initially be offered for a period of 6 months but is expected to be renewed or converted to a permanent contract thereafter. The company is contract driven with a turnover of c£20m, is profitable and has a healthy order book with mainly blue chip clients. This is the senior finance role and reports directly to the Chief Executive with a dotted line to the Group FD in the US.
This is an extremely visible, ‘hands on’ role. The Financial Controller/ Head of Finance will be expected to lead the effective operation and delivery of day-to-day financial controls and processes.
Main duties will include;
• Establishing and monitoring internal controls and procedures
• Provision of management accounts for UK entities, including P&L accounts, balance sheet and cash flow (including variance analysis)
• Analysis of cash flow performance and working capital against budget and medium term forecasts
• Delivery of statutory accounts to Group
• Improvement and development of internal management reports in line with the on-going growth of business
• Ad hoc analysis on new projects and acquisitions
• Continual review and improvement of business processes and team structure
You will be a qualified accountant with the proven ability to maintain and improve financial controls in business going through significant change. In addition the successful candidate will have experience of managing a finance team in an SME environment and will enjoy the visibility and autonomy that comes with managing within a lean a fast-paced, expanding business. You will also have excellent technical knowledge of developments in financial reporting, as well as strong financial systems skills.
Interviews for this role will take place within the next 2 weeks leading to an anticipated start in mid-June.

f) Treasury management including cash flow management, control over accounts payables and receivables and relationship with Bankers.
g) Preparation of quarterly VAT returns, monthly Intrastat submissions and other such Government reporting.
h) Overseeing in house payroll function and relationship with HMRC.
i) Ensuring that all financial controls and procedures operate effectively.
j) Co-ordinating all contractual and legal obligations.
k) Ongoing Development of cost control culture.
l) Participation in the commercial and strategic development of the Company.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS / EXPERIENCE:
a) Fully Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, and CIMA) with proven post qualification experience.
b) Confident in liaising with senior stakeholders.
c) Previous management experience at senior level.
d) Ability to build and maintain relationships both within the finance team and with internal clients.
e) Experience of working in a fast paced and high pressured environment.
f) Experience of leading and motivating a successful team to achieve results.
g) Advanced Excel skills.
h) A track record of achievement within a commercially-driven environment (ideally manufacturing)
