A leading multinational company within the power generation sector are currently searching for a Thermodynamics Engineer to join their team in Warwickshire. The business have a global presence - their products and services are responsible for approximately 25% of the entire planet's power output - they are a key player in a critical industry.

Due to departmental growth, there is presently a requirement for a Thermodynamics Engineer to be responsible for defining steam turbine blade size, calculating the rotational speed of the blades, and configuring plant equipment - essentially you will be tasked with providing the most economic solution for a customer.

Essentially what we are looking for is a mechanical engineer with a sound understanding of Thermodynamic principles, ideally with experience or knowledge of working on turbines or engines used in the power generation, automotive, or aerospace sectors.

W5 Recruitment are seeking an experienced Engineering Geologist / Geotechnical Engineer for a major international client, to be based in the Tees Valley office.

You will provide geotechnical design and reporting work for a range of interesting projects mainly in the UK. A large proportion of our work involves design of earthworks, foundations and retaining structures. Many of our schemes are multi-disciplinary and will require liaison with project teams of varying complexity and size.

The priorities of this role include: Inputting to the planning, investigation, design, construction and post construction monitoring of geotechnical aspects of projects; Preparing technical notes and geotechnical reports; Delivering geotechnical designs; Tracking of project programmes and delivery dates; Liaising with contractors and clients, both external and internal and supervising ground investigations.
Candidates should be able to exhibit a sound academic knowledge of engineering geology and geotechnical engineering, you will have a high degree of competence in geotechnical design of foundations, slopes, earthworks, retaining structures alongside a sound knowledge of design codes and standards (including EC7).

Experience of using geotechnical design software, particularly slope stability programs such as SlopeW is required, as are planning & organising skills and a commitment to professional and personal self development.

Basic Qualifications

Candidates will have a first degree in Geology, Engineering Geology or Civil Engineering.
In addition candidates will ideally have an MSc in Soil Mechanics / Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology

Successful candidates will have a background in mechanical handling systems, but no essential industry experience is required as my client are open minded as long as you have MHS experience.
§ Determining overall requirements in terms of cost, time, resource and technical content of electrical design with the Manager. Design and formulate plans which satisfy these requirements in conjunction with allocated staff.
§ Providing electrical design input to tenders, consistent with the job holder’s level of experience.
§ Producing electrical designs which satisfy technical content, timelines, cost and satisfies company standards and procedures.
§ Co-ordinate and manage all engineering activities on allocated projects or part projects as required.
§ Undertake electrical design tasks.
§ Being responsible for the development of allocated junior staff as appropriate.
§ Leading discussions with internal and external customers and suppliers in order to ensure that programmes are delivered to specification, cost and time.
§ Co-ordinating with other areas within the business in order to ensure the provision of appropriate design support commitment.
§ Keeping abreast of latest technology and identify technology developments and resources appropriate to the business needs and engineering activities.
§ Supervise small multi disciplined teams to achieve project deliverables.

A leading engineering firm in rural Hampshire specialising in the design and manufacture of educational and demonstration models for the teaching of engineering principles requires a Development Engineer to develop new products and ranges. The business is capitalising upon recent success and the Development Engineer will build-up the product range and report to the Technical Director.

The role will require a working and/or theoretical knowledge of thermodynamics and a familiarisation of CAD software in order to generate 2D and 3D engineering drawings, organising these drawings, parts lists and all files associated with the project. The role will also drive the development and improvement of existing products and time management will be employed effectively to manage this alongside new product development. Parts lists, manuals and documentation will be produced and the role will naturally require the testing of products.
