Altran is seeking a Software Developer, with experience in the Software Engineering industry. This Software Developer will be involved in the development of Critical and Embedded Software Systems, whose correct functionality is essential to the Safety and/or Business performance of our clients.
Candidates must have a wide experience of the software development life-cycle, ranging from Requirements Engineering, through Application Specification, Architectural Design, Code Development and into Verification and Validation.
Experience of Ada and Formal/Structured methods would be of benefit with this role. The key attribute to fulfil this role is that you understand the importance of Software Engineering as an Engineering Discipline and can show experience of having worked successfully in this type of environment.
The Developer will be able to plan their activities to meet the objectives with the timescale. This will include identifying key personal milestones that may be reported back to their project Manager. The Developer should have sufficient experience to be able to identify where action is required within a project to ensure its successful delivery and initiate work packages in conjunction with the Project Manager when this occurs.
A Developer at this grade would be expected to be capable of managing a small team, either as a standalone project, or part of a larger project, managing and directing the day-to-day activities of more junior engineers, and ideally should be able to demonstrate evidence of having done this in the past. The Engineer should also have the interpersonal skills to allow them to liaise with Altran Clients influencing them on technical, strategic and commercial levels.
Candidates should have experience in one or more of the following: UML, Ada/SPARK, C, Real-Time Operating Systems, Test Tools, Embedded Systems, Critical Systems, and Regulatory Standards

Principal Engineer - Simulation and Control ( Marine ) - £35k to £45k + bens (depending on experience)
Based: Clifton,Bristol
Working at a senior level, the Principal Simulation and Control Engineer ( Marine ) will support the Marine and Industrial Systems Group in the development of engineering and software solutions predominantly for submarine Autopilot programmes, supporting real-time industrial systems programmes outside of the marine environment and supporting expansion into the adjacent sector of renewable energy.
Our client is an expanding advanced engineering company supplying a range of world-leading products and services into niche aerospace, defence and energy sectors.
The successful Principal Simulation and Control Engineer ( Marine ) will be able to demonstrate relevant experience and be educated to degree level (or equivalent) in a related discipline. They must be able to demonstrate a good track record in development of dynamic simulation models, system level analysis and control systems development with a proven ability to lead a team of engineers.
Essential knowledge and skills for the role of Principal Simulation and Control Engineer ( Marine ) include:
* Proven track record of modelling, simulation and system level design of off-line and real time dynamic systems.
* Experience of systems engineering and the product lifecycle, from requirements capture through to commissioning and in-service support.
* Highly experienced in the use of Matlab and Simulink.
* Ability to capture and implement customer requirements.
* Experience of test specification development and results analysis.
* Working knowledge in the specification and design of effective control algorithms.
* Good interpersonal, communications, presentation and reporting skills.
* Proven ability to effectively manage and / or mentor others.
* Ability to gain UK based security clearance to SC level.

This is an exciting opportunity to take on a core role at our Wormington Compressor Station. Carrying out a wide range of scheduled and breakdown maintenance of high pressure plant, equipment and rotating machinery, you will identify faults quickly and respond appropriately, to ensure equipment remains reliable and available. Providing maintenance and operational support cover for Compressor and Pipeline operations, you’ll work with operational and maintenance staff, engineers and managers, equipment suppliers and manufacturers.
The role involves a standby requirement where applicant will form part of a multi-discipline response to deal with site emergencies on equipment out of hours. The role will also entail administration of permit control measures when acting as Site Controller.
Ideally educated to at least ONC level (or equivalent), you will have completed a recognised Electrical apprenticeship / training programme. You’ll have significant maintenance experience, preferably in an environment utilising High Speed Rotating Machinery with power inputs in excess of 3MW. With sound working knowledge of different types of actuators, valves, pumps and the maintenance and operation of these. You’ll need to be a team player, and should be able to demonstrate a good understanding of HV Electrical systems, rotating machinery, maintenance techniques, relevant legislation and standards.
Permission to drive in the UK is essential.

3D Mechanical Design Engineer
