Overview:
A growing Electrical Control Engineering company is seeking to employ a Control Panel Design Engineer for Electrical, Instrumentation, Control & Automation Projects to work within the Utilities and Process Industry Sectors.
The Electrical / Control Panel Design Engineer Role:
You would be responsible for the Management, Design, Implementation and Commissioning of a range of Control Panel / Instrumentation Projects, including some commercial responsibilities.
You should be able to interpret Client Specification documents and Electrical Drawings, conduct Site Surveys of existing installations, plan, forecast and co-ordinate resource with internal departments, design, specify and procure Electrical, Control and Instrumentation equipment. Plus, provide overall Technical Support and Leadership to internal Installation and Commissioning Field Technicians.
Whilst the role and tasks allocated to you would be supported by a Project Manager, at times, you would be in trusted to work under your own supervision and initiative.
We believe the role would suit applicants from an Electrical Projects, Control Panel design background, with specific knowledge of PLC based Control Systems, and / or Instrumentation, who are now looking for the next step up in their career. However, there is scope for additional training and career development with this company, who are always looking for opportunities to expand.
The role will be split between Head Office and various site locations, so it is essential that you hold a valid UK Driving License.
Electrical / Control Panel Design Engineer Essential Skills & Experience: -
> To be considered for this role, you should have practical experience of detailed electrical control panel design and commissioning MCC’s / ICA Sections / Control Panels.
> Site commissioning and full customer support of existing systems; integration with electrical equipment.
> Provide 2nd line support to manufacturing on all matters relating to control panel systems
> Knowledge of PLC based Control Systems, with any design experience of Allen-Bradley and / or Mitsubishi Programming Software advantageous.
> Able to understand, design and modify Electrical Schematics & Loop Diagrams.
> Able to use a PC with a good working knowledge of MS Office products.
> Understand the need to conform to H&S Requirements when working on client sites.
> Able to develop RAMS documents.
> Excellent oral and written communication skills and an ability to work within a Team Environment or Individually.
Desirable Skills & Experience: -
> Water Utilities experience with knowledge of WIMES.
> EUSR / CCNSG / CCSC Cards.
> Experience of Field Networks.
> Understanding/Qualifications in Machinery Safety
> Understanding of ATEX / CompEX Certified circuits
> Knowledge of IEC 61508/61511.
> PLC/HMI Programming/Configuration experience and/or desire expand knowledge
> Production of P&ID’s
> In depth working knowledge AutoCAD.
Qualifications: -
HNC / HND or Higher in Electrical / Control / Instrumentation; and / or,
Time Served Apprenticeship in a relevant role with proof of structured career progression.
As an experienced Control Panel Design Engineer you will have experience of and responsibility for the following:
> Production of functional design specifications (FDS) for PLC & SCADA systems; control panel systems programming and configuration for power systems
> Cost down designing
> Site commissioning and full customer support of existing systems; integration with electrical equipment
> Provide 2nd line support to manufacturing on all matters relating to control panel systems
> Occasional visits to central French manufacturing site for system builds, kick-off meetings, etc.
Qualifications / Experience:
> Relevant higher education, e.g. BEng or HND/HNC in Electrical Engineering or Control Systems
> Design Engineering Experience of LV/HV power control systems for Heat Exchangers would be helpful, AutoCAD
> Experience of Thyrister Control Units, Analogue, Digital and Relay Logic, PLC Systems Electrical AC/DC Control Drives and PID Controller (temp cont/trip units)
> Full project life cycle experience including design through to commissioning of a range of PLC & SCADA systems.
> Preferred systems experience such as Siemens, Allen Bradley, etc will be considered
> Full appreciation of electrical installations, electrical schematics, control panel builds, etc. Specific electrical power distribution experience (switchgear, UPS) is an advantage but not a pre-requisite
> A genuine self-starter who is able to manage their time effectively

My client a leading manufacturing company requires an experienced Mechanical Project Engineer to join their established Mechanical Project Engineering team. The company within the mechanical handling and heavy engineering sector, based in South Yorkshire. The company are experiencing a sustained period growth over the last few years and have a very strong order book and customer base. My client based in Sheffield offer a full manufacturing service including design and development work on site through to final manufacture and installation.
The main duties of the role will focus on the design and development of a range of Mechanical Handling / Bulk Materials Handling systems and Heavy Engineering projects. The successful Design Engineer will be responsible for working with the sales and production teams to take projects through to delivery stage by working with internal and external teams to ensure customers" requirements are met in full and on time and within budget
The successful Mechanical Project Engineer will be expected to;
* Develop and present technical solutions to the customers and in house teams on new or current projects.
* Design and development of new Products in line with customer specifications and in line with company procedures
* Produce thorough and accurate design project documentation to gain approval of customer and Design manager
* Implement design changes to improve manufacturing efficiency
* Produce accurate project documents including manufacturing methods, bills of materials and stress analysis
* Working with internal departments along with external customers and suppliers to ensure design meets customers" expectations and I ensure efficient production processes
* Provide technical support to sales and marketing to obtain new business.
Key skills and experience
* Candidates should be educated to Degree level in a Mechanical Engineering discipline, or relevant industry experience..
* Heavy Engineering experience required and ideally previous experience of working on large scale bespoke Mechanical Engineering projects.
* 3D Design experience, preferably using Solidworks software.
* Candidates should be able to produce stress analysis reports using IT software
Candidates should have experience of working with SolidWorks 3D design package within a Mechanical Project Engineering role.
