Job Description
We are currently looking for an enthusiastic intermediate electrical engineer to join our Oxford office. Duties will include undertaking survey work and the production of feasibility reports, full design and specification for a wide range of electrical systems in buildings in a number of different sectors including healthcare, education, private and public housing, commercial and retail.
Initially the role will be under the guidance of a Director, however as you develop, you will increasingly be responsible for visiting a wide variety of sites to undertake feasibility surveys, attend site progress meetings and review installations. Working closely with other team members, you will see projects through from inception to completion and handover.
Skills and Qualities
The role will involve becoming confident in the design of electrical services in buildings, becoming efficient at AutoCAD and other design software and assisting with the preparation of feasibility studies, project design and contract administration. In order to be successful you should be able to demonstrate that you have:
• A degree in a relevant subject
• Relevant experience of building services design
• Excellent communication skills
• Be a competent MS Word and Excel user
• An accurate, methodical approach to your work
• Good organisational and prioritisation skills
It is essential that you have your own transport and driving license.
The role involves the use of IES, Revit, AutoCad, and other design and modelling software. Working knowledge of MS Office is also preferred. Previous experience of these or similar packages is useful however full training will be provided.
We have a CIBSE approved Training and Development scheme and will support engineers in becoming Chartered.

Field Instrument Scientist/Engineer �26,442 - �29,704 per annum Based in Wallingford, Oxfordshire We are now seeking a Field Instrument Scientist/Engineer to operate eddy covariance greenhouse gas monitoring, and associated micrometeorological and hydrological measurements in an active research focused team based at our Wallingford site. Main Duties The focus of the role is observational micrometeorology for carbon and water cycle science - to deliver the high quality long term datasets needed for environmental science. This includes not only the day to day tasks (instrument maintenance, sensor calibration, data processing, quality control and analysis), but also the construction of new measurement systems and application of new sensor technology to enhance and improve our research. The emphasis is on highly efficient reliable data capture with automated procedures and minimal maintenance requirements, combined with research grade measurements that are entirely traceable. These datasets are of international significance and are web-served to the community through the CEH Gateway. You will be supported by a senior instrumentation manager, mechanical workshop staff and other field scientists/technicians in high quality laboratories with good equipment and research infrastructure. Skills Required Candidates will be expected to have a strong technical and scientific background, educated to degree level or higher in the physical sciences or engineering and with some experience of operating eddy covariance or similarly demanding environmental measurements with at least some experience of micrometeorology. It is essential that candidates can demonstrate experience of sensor principles and data logging practice and have experience in the construction of electronic equipment (at a systems integration level), including light fabrication, wiring and soldering. You should have some overview knowledge and experience of data communications for remote data collection (eg GPRS/3G). Knowledge of off-grid renewable power supplies (wind and solar) to power instrument systems would be advantageous. Experience designing and deploying instrumentation field installations, including mechanical housings, security, measurement masts, extra-low voltage power systems etc. and communicating with third party site owners. A numerate background is required with evidence of computer programming, preferably both of Windows PCs (the R Statistical Language is preferred) and data loggers (preferably Campbell Scientific CR Basic). Aptitude for trouble-shooting and fault-finding of complex systems and dealing with logistical and scientific challenges; being accurate and self-reliant with the ability to quickly pick up new ideas, logically approach problems and effectively provide quick, practical solutions. You will be required to work outside in the field in all weather conditions, often alone, and you should therefore be resilient, determined and physically fit. There will be some work at height, possibly on towers and rooftops up to 50 m high, for which training will be given. You must hold a full driving license and you should be willing to spend some nights away from home each month. The closing date is 24 May 2013

Their client base includes planners, lawyers, civil engineers, architects and developers in the public and private sectors, as well as local authorities, statutory nature conservation organisations and national government departments. They currently require a Senior Ecologist to join their Oxfordshire office.
The principal responsibilities of the role will be:
-To take day to day responsibility for individual contracts. This will include contract supervision/management and direct execution of work to a high level of competence and accuracy. Contract work includes field work, research, report preparation and project management
-To ensure that the supervising partner for each contract is kept up to date with the progress of the contract

Duties will be principally related to contract execution, but there will be a requirement to undertake other work such as attendance at meetings with clients and other interested parties to give advice and/or make verbal reports as necessary in relation to contract work; attendance at internal contract and practice meetings with the Partners as required; keeping a detailed timesheet for billing purposes; keeping an up to date record of continuing professional development in accordance with IEEM guidelines; to implement faithfully the partnership's policies and procedures and to report to the partners any perceived need for improvement/updating of such policies and procedures; to undertake work in line with the terms and conditions set out in the contract of employment and to undertake any reasonable additional or different duties which the partnership may require from time to time.
The ideal candidate will have good experience of habitat and botanical survey, survey for protected species work including water voles, great crested newt and badger or be a recognised specialist in one or more biotic groups. They should also be able to demonstrate a good knowledge of a wide range of standard survey methodologies covering most biotic groups and how these techniques should be applied. They must be able to write reports to a high standard, be able to deal with clients and third parties in a professional, discreetly and effectively and present work in a scientific manner to meetings and conferences. They need experience of Ecological Impact Assessment, they should be able to interpret legislation and relevant policies and have the ability to use this knowledge to make recommendations to clients. They need a good understanding of the principals and practice of avoidance, mitigation and compensation in relation to impacts on features of ecological value. They must also have a full driving licence and be able to use standard word processing and data management computer packages.
It would be desirable if the applicant also had survey experience of reptiles, white clawed crayfish, bats, otters and other British mammals and birds as well as a knowledge of EIA production, data analysis skills and experience of planning and undertaking conservation and/or research projects.

Engineering Geologist (Oxfordshire)
For this vacancy we are looking for an individual who is keen to apply their geological knowledge to the characterisation of offshore development sites. The individual should have relevant experience in engineering geology, sedimentology, marine geology and geohazards characterisation/assessment.
The role involves performing engineering geological and geohazard site appraisals through the interpretation and integration of geophysical, geological and geotechnical data. The role will involve some periods of working offshore on geotechnical drilling and survey vessels.
Key Responsibilities:
Integrates the available geological, geophysical and geotechnical data for use in engineering geological site characterisation, geohazard assessments, stratigraphic, soil parameter unitisation and engineering studies
Log sediment cores for geotechnical, geological and geohazard purposes
Produces geohazard site appraisal, field, laboratory, parameter and engineering geological reports
To act as mentor to other junior members of the team
Check and correct field and laboratory data processed by others
Assign laboratory tests and manage laboratory test programmes for both geotechnical and geological purposes
Provide geological input to geotechnical engineering projects
Performs and checks geological, geophysical and engineering geological interpretations and conclusions either in peer review sessions or individually
Prepares final reports
Ensures that field projects meet HSE requirements
Acts as a technical focus point for particular technical area
Act as Assistant Site Manager, Lead Geologist or Shift Leader on field investigations
Integration of geophysical and geotechnical data, with regional data and previous experience to help understand and constrain the ground conditions across a large wind farm site;
Terrain mapping from high resolution geophysical data to assist a client in finding in an acceptable route for a pipeline that runs across seismically active continental shelf, slope and abyssal plain;
Detailed sedimentological logging to identify multiple mass movement events and assess the potential impact on foundations and flowlines
Position Requirements
The successful candidate should have:
A university degree in Geology, Geoscience, Earth Science or Engineering Geology.
Post-graduate experience in geology and / or engineering geology
Relevant work experience in interpretation of geological, geophysical and geotechnical data for engineering geological and geohazards challenges
Capability to manage multiple projects concurrently
Excellent communication skills in English
Technical report writing experience
Good numeracy skills
Capable of dealing with large multiple disciplinary data sets
An interest in the application of marine geology and sedimentology
The ability to communicate complex information and share ideas to varied audiences
A commitment to producing quality work
The capacity to work as part of an innovative and highly effective team
Commitment to continuing professional development as a member of the Geological Society of London
Other skills that may be highly beneficial include:
Experience with ArcGIS
Proficiency with IHS Kingdom Suite and seismic workstations
Technical report writing experience (e.g. from applied work experience or during academic study)
