Excellent opportunity for an experienced Project Manager to play a key part in dealing with the challenges faced by the UK energy infrastructure in meeting the UK's carbon objectives.
Working for this unique organisation you will be addressing issues such as:
• How to adapt networks to enable a higher penetration of renewable and distributed generation with good security and quality of supply.
• How to manage networks to provide greater flexibility between supply and demand to offset high CO2 peak demand.
• How to reduce CO2 and environmental impact of existing networks.
You will be responsible for delivering various Energy Storage and Distribution projects through the full project lifecycle from initiation to completion. The projects may involve the development of tools (e.g. modeling) or technologies across multiple energy vectors.
Qualifications:
• Degree level in engineering – in a relevant subject related to one of the main energy vectors (electricity, gas, heat).
• Relevant project management qualification/accreditation.
• Chartered status or equivalent breadth of both technical and project management experience.
Experience: • Direct experience of the management of technology design, development and demonstration projects, preferably involving multiple external contractors.
• Evidence of substantial experience in leading and delivering a portfolio of collaborative projects to time, cost and required quality to include experience of budgeting, forecasting, cost control and applying project management best practice.
• Broad engineering background including the design and development of energy networks and/or storage plant and experience of its installation, commissioning and/or maintenance.
• Management of internal and external stakeholders at senior levels and facilitating/leading meetings. Ideally experience of working with industry, local government and central government.
• Procurement and contract negotiation in an innovative technology role such as technology development contracts. The candidate should have knowledge of IP management.
• Development of commercialisation and exploitation plans supported by stakeholder development.
• Experience of the management requirements for publicly funded projects and exposure to State Aid Regulations desirable.

• Effective influencing and negotiation skills.

You will be contributing to the development of their technology strategy and programme portfolio by providing a UK energy system modelling and analysis capability in. The focus of this particular role is the Transport Programme which is focusing on both light duty vehicle electrification and heavy duty vehicle efficiency improvement, including the role of gas in heavy duty vehicles.
Principal Accountabilities
To support and manage the development of analytical tools and data sets (including energy supply, demand, carbon emissions and economic factors) that will guide the development, selection and integration of Technology Programmes, and to perform studies and other analysis using these tools and data sets, that will specifically be used to inform the Transport Programme.
Specific accountabilities include:
• Support the Strategy Manager (Transport) in the technical and economic analysis of key low carbon transport issues (such as the future roles of liquid fuels, hydrogen, electricity and natural gas for transport), their long-term challenges and the opportunities for technology development intervention;
• Liaise with the Programme Manager (Transport) to ensure that projects in development and those already in delivery align with their high level strategic objectives and the specific objectives of the Transport Programme;
• Review the technical aspects of project deliverables
• Evaluate the technical and strategic aspects of proposed project variations and assess the impacts and implications for outcome delivery.
• Ensure a consistent set of assumptions are maintained for system modelling and economic evaluation of low carbon technologies, in particular in respect of the UK transport system likely to be needed to deliver 2050 energy targets
• Ensure that the audit trail for key source documents and decisions is maintained and transparent, so that key modelling and strategic outputs can be traced back to their source inputs;
Person Profile
The person will need to be able to carry out detailed numerical work accurately and rapidly, and to understand the practical engineering implications of their analysis. They will need to prioritise their work and broker agreement on the best approach among team members in an open and professional manner.
Qualifications: Must have a good degree (1st or strong 2:1 in a relevant engineering or science subject with a strong systems flavour – automotive engineering or subjects related to transport are preferred)
Experience: Candidates should have two / three years post first-degree experience of systems design, working under a recognised Design Authority, in a large and competent design group in a major consultancy or industrial group.
Exceptional candidates who have been awarded an EngD may be considered provided that the subject of their Doctorate involved the design of relevant industrial systems. Experience of model building and programming.

Ability to apply theoretical knowledge to practical problems.
