Contract Opto-Mechanical Designer - Solidworks - Kent
Based in Kent, our client is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer on an initial contract basis. Ideally the candidate will have a working knowledge of Solidworks or similar 3D design packages and have experience of designing precision instruments or optical components, whilst being able also to demonstrate experience of assembly. Aerospace or Defence background advantageous though not essential.
Key skills:
- Exposure of FEA packages (ANSYS or Solidworks Simulation)
- Experience in the use of Solidworks or similar CAD.
- Experience in Design of Optical or Precision instruments.
- Aerospace or Defence Background.

Operations / Production / Manufacturing Manager
West Yorkshire - Attractive package up to £45k basic salary + fully expensed car
Reporting directly to the site Managing Director the Operations / Production / Manufacturing Manager will manage all day to day Operational and Production matters ensuring maximum operating margins are achieved whilst meeting customer quality and delivery requirements. You will manage and develop the Operations team, implementing changes and improvements to support the company’s objective of delivering sustainable long term commercial growth.
The role has responsibility for a team of c.35, control of direct costs, productivity and efficiency, continuous Improvement activity, planned and preventative maintenance, materials and purchasing, staff training and development etc.
Our client is a successful and expanding division of an established UK plc involved in provision of wide range of surface and chemical processing services to the industrial marketplace in the UK and overseas. With a growing customer base including the Oil, Gas, Power, Energy, Defence, Aerospace and process industries, they are able to offer excellent opportunities for career growth and progression and an attractive starting package up to £45K basic salary + fully expensed car, life assurance, private medical cover etc.
Ideally educated to degree level in a science or engineering discipline the successful Operations / Production / Manufacturing Manager will have experience of leading multi-disciplined production teams in a factory / industrial / plant setting. Previous exposure to the demands of a fast turnaround process industry or engineering services organisation is required, and experience of using modern manufacturing tools ( 5S, Lean etc.) to drive improvement in a batch processing environment would be desirable. Strong financial and commercial acumen is essential, as is an ability to adopt a customer service focussed approach to management.
The Operations / Production / Manufacturing Manager will act as a figurehead and champion for all Health and Safety matters on site.
