Role Purpose

Seeking a talented and enthusiastic Automation Engineer to be a key contributor on an unannounced game title. The ideal candidate is somebody who is passionate about games and has worked on implementing, managing and maintaining content and code build, deployment and automation systems for modern large scale games and services. The role will initially involve helping to maintain and manage existing build automation infrastructure, ensuring that internal builds of game and infrastructure components are delivered in a complete and timely manner to team members, QA and production. Later work will involve improving the efficiency of build production and deployment, tracking and managing multiple releases and content packs and contributing to automated testing of the game.

Key skills required:

• Demonstrated experience of working in a task automation and build engineering role.
• Knowledge of continuous integration systems.
• Knowledge of build production and deployment for Microsoft platforms.
• Knowledge of Unreal 3 and/or 4 build processes, both code and assets a distinct plus.
• Knowledge of code and asset build systems in general (e.g. Make, MSBuild, Ant, Visual Studio)
• Knowledge of programming in scripting languages and environments such as Python, Powershell etc.

Key Accountabilities:

Maintain and develop continuous integration, build and deployment systems for local and service environments.
Identify new requirements, define and prioritise features then build and implement them as required.
Monitor build status, and collect build related metrics, working with production to encourage timely fixes to issues from the team.
Develop and maintain systems to connect build production with source control and bug tracking.
Work with the IT department and the team to ensure that appropriate hardware resources are available to produce and deploy builds.
Work with QA and developers to manage automated build validation tests and provide build health monitoring and reporting.

Key Success Criteria:

Deployed builds are correct, minimal and complete.
Builds are delivered to the team and service environment in a timely fashion.
Build breakages are tracked and reported.
QA is able to track all fixes within a build allowing them to regress appropriate bugs.
Build health is prominently displayed throughout the office, both during development and post release as updates are rolled out.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

1) Essential Experience

• Demonstrated experience of working in a task automation and build engineering role.

• Knowledge of continuous integration systems.

• Knowledge of build production and deployment for Microsoft platforms.

• Knowledge of Unreal 3 and/or 4 build processes, both code and assets a distinct plus.

2) Technical/Functional Skills

• Knowledge of code and asset build systems in general (e.g. Make, MSBuild, Ant, Visual Studio)

• Knowledge of programming in scripting languages and environments such as Python, Powershell etc.

• Knowledge of Perforce (administration knowledge a distinct plus)

• Knowledge of Team Foundation Server

• Knowledge of database administration (e.g. MSSQL, MySQL)

• Knowledge of the Zutubi Pulse CI system a distinct plus.

• Knowledge of client/server architectures, hardware and network infrastructure.

3) Personal Attributes/Interpersonal Skills

• Ability to work closely with other developers and production to gather and clarify requirements for build automation and test automation.

• Strong communication skills with non-technical team members

• Ability to triage and prioritise build issues and chase appropriate developers for fixes.

Working within a large engineering company you will also be required to collaborate with other software engineers at our client’s Swiss sister company to ensure compatibility of software across the whole product range. Attend training for Software in Switzerland or Germany to improve knowledge and understanding. Work to agreed deadlines for the completion of projects. Willing to travel to customers or suppliers as necessary. Assist with the electrical design process if required and time allows.

Our client is a large Surrey based OEM who currently employ over 600 members within the UK and sell their products around the world, with a UK market share of 70% the successful Supervisor/Welder will be joining their Head Office and main UK manufacturing site.

The Supervisor will be responsible for a designated team of welders and fabricators on a rolling shift pattern one week early (6-2) the following week late (2-10) working Monday to Friday on a base 40 hour week paying £12.12 per hour plus hourly shift allowance of + £2.42ph, which gives you a base of £30,243.00 per annum. Over time is possible for which there is ample and twice yearly paid bonuses.

Essential Experience
• You must have a strong proven background gained within production/manufacturing welding. Site welders need not apply
• Experience with production planning and scheduling
• Reviewing design plans and engineering change notes ensuring the team is up to speed
• Contribute to the company quality management system
• This position requires some hands on duties. Training new employees, giving support and guidance, maintaining the production output to meet deadlines.
• Administrative duties include tracking holiday’s, sickness, work schedules, weekly production reports, monitoring hours, taking part in interviews and carrying out performance related meetings.

The successful applicant will need to have experience with Production practices and ideally be familiar with Lean principals.
