JOB PURPOSE: Under the general supervision and guidance of the Senior Engineer, to be responsible for design of strategic highway civil engineering works. MAIN DUTIES: * To design highway works including the use of AutoCad and Moss MX. * To design surface water drainage, including the use of WinDes. * To prepare detailed bills of quantities, estimates. * To prepare works specifications and project information. * Compile design risk assessment and management measures. * To carry out other duties which are commensurate with the grade of the post. KNOWLEDGE AND TRAINING: * HND/HNC or equivalent qualification plus significant relevant experience. * IT literate, including the use of Moss MX, Autocad and WinDes (drainage design). * Membership of a relevant professional body desirable. * Experience of The Specification of Highway Works, Method of Measurement for Highway Works and New Engineering Contract Forms of Contract. Bristol �18,000 - �22,000 We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic Ecologist to join the team in our Chepstow office. The main duties will be as follows:- - Undertaking Ecology Appraisals (extended Phase 1 habitat surveys) - Producing Ecology Appraisal reports including protected species audits - Protected species survey work and reporting - including bat roost and transect surveys, full great crested newt pond surveys and HSI assessments, reptile surveys - Ecological clerk of works / watching brief - BREEAM and Code for Sustainable Homes ecology credit assessment The ideal candidate would be an enthusiastic ecologist with at least one to two years experience working in ecological consultancy and with the following key skills: - An ability to plan and undertake habitat surveys to a high standard and to identify indicator plant species and habitat types - Good working knowledge of UK and EU Wildlife Legislation and best practice survey techniques - Confident in the use of bat detectors and bat analysis software - Experienced in undertaking great crested newt surveys - Good level of literacy and an ability to prepare clear, concise and accurate technical reports - Good verbal communication skills - Ability to work effectively as a lone surveyor on sites - Full driving licence In addition, the following skills are not essential but would be a distinct advantage:- - Survey experience of water vole, otter and badger - Holder of GCN survey licence - Breadth of ECoW experience - Daytime assessment of buildings and trees to BCT standards - Experience of preparing EPS licence applications - Bird identification skills - Good working knowledge of planning policy and guidance in relation to development - Experience in Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA) - Understanding of designing mitigation and its practical implementation This is an excellent opportunity to develop your career with one of the UK's leading environmental consultancies.
