The role for systems administrator is viewed as a senior position to support, maintain, configure, monitor and develop the company’s UNIX / Linux based production web platforms hosted in AWS cloud. The job is very varied with exposure to a wide range of technologies working within a project focused media company.
Where circumstances dictate it may be necessary to work out of hours and this is seen to be a reasonable expectation for the position.
Essential Skills:
● Extensive experience supporting linux / unix based web platforms.
● Advanced knowledge of administering, configuring and monitoring Apache / Tomcat.
● Experience of server automation using Puppet or Chef.
● Scripting skills in languages such as PERL, Bash, Python etc.
● Previous experience of MySQL administration.
● Experience administering load balancers (HAProxy / ELB)
● Sound knowledge of system security principles and best practices.
Desirable:
● Experience of cloud server hosting, specifically Amazon Web Services.
● Experience working with Rightscale.
● Exposure to Terracotta, Rabbit MQ, Mongo DB.
● Monitoring best practice and systems including nagios, graylog and graphite.
● Information security practices.
Primary responsibilities:
● Ensure high availability of all production web platforms.
● Troubleshoot and resolve any issues as they occur.
● Take responsibility of the end to end release management process.
● Monitor and optimise server and application performance.
● Assist with the on-going development of our cloud infrastructure.
● Maintain and develop our monitoring platform.
● Ensure highest level of data security and backup.
● Support and assist the development and QA teams as required.
● Participation in development of operational best practices.
● Maintain up to date documentation of all configuration items.
General Duties:
● In addition to the responsibilities listed, the job-holder is required to perform other duties assigned by the Line Manager from time to time.

Exciting opportunity for an experienced Tester to join a growing digital department in one of the UK largest National Newspaper/Media company.

As a Tester in Trinity Mirror you will be helping to deliver sites that have combined monthly audience of close to 20 million people. The role of the Tester/Automated Tester involves helping to develop/maintain a new testing environment. Implementing an end-to-end test automation solution, such that testing is applied correctly at all stages of development.

Candidates should have extensive experience of automated testing throughout all development disciplines, not just QA system-level testing. For example candidates should have an understanding of Test Driven Development and its value within Agile development.

They should be familiar with unit, integration and system testing and how and where to run and monitor each testing layer. Candidates should have demonstrable experience of implementing integration tests using standard frameworks and tools, and have the necessary technical skills to glue code to business facing tests.
Candidates should have experience using test automation tools such as Selenium 2 / WebDriver for testing web applications.

Candidates should have implemented load tests and appreciate the difficulties and complexities of load testing, demonstrating understanding of which tools can be used to load test different protocols.

To succeed in this role, you will have to come from a development background with a passion for good quality code, or a testing/QA background with a lot of hands on development experience. You should know how software can efficiently be built and tested. You will also have the confidence and ability to liaise directly with developers, if necessary coaching them in good practices as well as business product owners.

Ideally you should be of Degree calibre, have proven experience as a tester and have a working Knowledge of Agile Scrum Methodology, working Knowledge of Commercial Web Sites.
