Our client is a well-established, forward thinking engineering consultancy. They combine a multidisciplinary approach with access to international expertise to deliver innovative, sustainable and cost-effective solutions. They work closely with clients abroad, in the transportation, energy, environment and building sectors. They are now actively seeking a Principal Geotechnical Engineer with significant experience to work from their Bristol office. Recent experience within the UK water industry would be preferable but not essential.

The successful candidate will have: experience of the management of projects, both financially and technically; strong interpersonal and team working skills and an ability to communicate well with all levels of the organisation, clients and contractors; specific technical skills in geotechnical design; appropriate experience in design, contract and tender preparation, tender assessment, construction supervision and administration; familiarity with relevant software packages such as MS Project, Word, Excel, AutoCAD and geotechnical design software; the ability to communicate in a fluent and positive manner with other team members and to produce reports in clear English.

The qualifications required are: a first degree in civil engineering/engineering geology; a
post graduate degree in geotechnical engineering or soil mechanics and they will be a
Chartered Engineer or Chartered Geologist. They will have experience of: working in a design and build environment (preferably water schemes and highways schemes); experience of soft ground design solutions; design of special foundations (piled foundations, ground improvement); design of earthworks; design of retaining walls; Design of site investigation use of the Yellow book Specification and knowledge of the ICE conditions of contract; proven experience of project management of medium and large sized/risk jobs and involvement in large schemes and experience of managing a team of engineers/geologists. Experience of the following would be advantageous: design experience of soil nails, ground anchors, reinforced earth and manipulation of electronic geo data for modelling purposes in Gint and Rock works as well as knowledge and experience of Wallap, Repute, Slope/W, Talren, Plaxis.
