Software Architect (Information Systems)

Main Duties and Responsibilities

* The jobholder will work in bid and project environments. Candidate will become key member of the Software Function.

* In bid environment will assist in preparing solutions, designs for web application projects, prepare software
estimates and assist with proposal documents.

* In project environment will work with design authority to determine solution design and will be responsible for
providing technical leadership to the development team.

* In both environments will work with other disciplines in producing best solutions for customer to time and budget.

Key Tasks

* Architects, estimates, designs, documents the solution during bid phase.

* Acts as technical lead for software teams during the detailed design, code, test, integrate and commission phases for
web based projects, using agreed standards and tools. Solutions will be based on industry recognised products.

Features of the job:
The majority of work will be carried out at Thales premises in Stockport. Some travel to client sites and occasionally
other Thales UK sites may be required. Therefore, flexibility to travel and work at other locations is essential.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Training:

Degree-qualified or equivalent.

Work Experience, Skills and Knowledge:

Essential:

* Proven experience of designing software solutions

* Proven experience in working within multi disciplinary teams to design and estimate technical solution for web based
projects

* Core Java and J2EE Technologies (JMS, JTA)

* Knowledge of Service Oriented Architectures (SOA)

Desirable:

* JBoss Application Server and ESB

* Linux and Shell Scripts

* SQL (preferably Oracle or PostgreSQL)

* Hibernate & Spring

* jBPM & BRMS (Process and Rules Management)

* Groovy & Grails

* Gradle

* Webservices

* Spring Security

* Oracle Spatial/PostGIS

* Experience of Agile and Waterfall methodologies

* Experience of JUnit and Automated Test Tools

* HTML/CSS Experience

* Experience with requiments tools (DOORS)

* Office tools (Word, Excel etc)
