Fibre Networks Design Engineerfor a major UK managed services provider, Yorkshire
Up to 40k base plus 5k car allowance and bonus and benefits

To provide specialist skill and knowledge leadership for fibre optic network design, sourcing, construction, supervision
so to optimise network performance. Responsible for identifying current and potential issues that offer opportunities for
improvement within the group wide optical fibre network, with particular focus on the NGA project and the SYDR network.
This role will fundamentally assist us deliver 'leading edge' next generation fibre products that support the fulfilment
of our ambitions to move into next generation products and services.
Key Result Areas
* To act as Solution and Technical Design Authority and thought leadership for all optical solutions across the NGA fibre
optic cable networks. Acting as an integral part of the NGA team.
* Working with suppliers to gather and develop products that can enhance the delivery process of projects within
prescribed time scales, and technical prerequisites.
* Assess and recommend solutions based on technical and commercial criteria that best suit the businesses need.
* Undertaking Feasibility assessments though designing and costing the optimal solution for new service connectivity to
our network.
* Undertake regular operational reviews of practices and procedures associated with the NGA project to ensure we are
providing the best optical fibre solutions to improve business performance.
* Engage with Project Management and all necessary wider teams of the business that a new product evolves from concept to
in service
* To identify new systems and methods of recording fibre optic records and circuits are evaluated and brought in to
service within scope and budget.
* Maintain a perspective on technological product and market trends associated with the optical fibre field and when
required define and deliver positioning documents or remedial plans.
* Gathering the necessary data, including by physical survey in order to create a quality work package. (Utility Stats,
CDM Generic and Specific risks Highways Authority consents.)
* Develop optimal civil/cabling engineering solutions (challenging established principles and taking a flexible approach)
in response to NGA project requirements, either autonomously or as the lead in a design team comprising of internal
and/or external parties.
* Ensure that the correct Bill of Materials are generated to enable the timely order of non stock items to facilitate
solution construction in accordance with stated lead times.
* Effective monitoring and supervision of planning works associated with the NGA project during construction phase. And
resolution of problems/project design issues.
* Production and issue of technical design information instructing Supervisors, internal/external works groups and/or
contractors to carry out Civil Engineering, Copper and/or Fibre Optic cabling and jointing work. Ensuring compliance with
best practice, company procedures and any legislative requirements.
* Providing a single point of technical accountability for the design and build of the solution, including resolution of
engineering difficulties and resultant redesigns if required.
* To ensure compliance with all Health, Safety, Security and Environmental responsibilities/requirements. Creation and
provision of appropriate safety documentation for internal/external customers, including site specific safety
information. Monitoring of safety & environmental performance of site operatives where required.
Knowledge/Skills and Experience
* Relevant experience of telecom network engineering techniques (Inc jointing/cabling/civil engineering) across a broad
range of products aligned to the strategic needs of the business and specifically the NGA project
* Extensive experience in the field of fibre optic design and technical specialism of fibre optic products
* Experience of developing and delivering training to groups of telecoms engineers on products and ways of working, both
in-house teams and contractors.
* Act as lead on fibre optic products to both the NGA project and the National business.
* Ability to prepare and deliver reports on innovative products and methods to enhance performance of the NGA project.
* Appreciation of Historic, current & impending telecommunication network architecture and associated equipment, methods
and techniques to assist in the planning of the NGA network.
* Civil Engineering practices including highway design and construction.
* All appropriate Legislation/Regulations associated with role. NRSWA/CDM
* Role related software applications.
* Company Processes, Procedures, Specifications, Products and Services.
* Specialised Engineering tasks, Methods and Procedures.
* Project management and Co-ordinating in an analytical and systematic manner.
* Detailed & accurate Estimating & Auditing of projects.
* Team working (Inc virtual teams).
