Lecturer - Mechanical Services Engineering
£22,038 - £36,420 per annum incl LAA (Salary dependant on qualifications and experience)
If your background and qualifications are in Mechanical Services Engineering - Plumbing installation, maintenance, fault rectification, with design or management experience and have a Level 3 Qualification or equivalent , why not consider passing on your knowledge and skills to the future generations of plumbers and heating engineers. If you can explain ideas in straightforward language, demonstrate practical skills and have IT skills you are the person we want and will help you gain a teaching qualification (if you don't have one already).
We are looking for individuals who have recent industry experience/knowledge of working within domestic plumbing, gas, and environmental technologies.
About the College
The College of North West London (CNWL) based in Brent is a successful Further Education College offering a wide range of full time and part time courses, from beginner to foundation degree/HND/HNC level.
Description of duties
* To contribute to the achievement of the College's strategic objectives by: the development, co-ordination, planning and delivery of high quality learning opportunities for students and clients in support of their learning goals, and the effective and efficient completion of all related and necessary assessment, verification, quality assurance and administrative duties.
* To teach and assess students on craft and technician courses specifically for Plumbing / Gas / H&V / Environmental Technologies qualifications, e.g. City and Guilds , EAL, Diplomas and Certificates
* To contribute to the establishment of a bank of training tasks and modules appropriate to the work of the section through writing, piloting, reviewing and the use of course materials.
* To contribute to the section's and school's curriculum development activities.
* To maintain records on student progression and performance in order to update course review and evaluate data in the course files.
* To actively participate in the activities of the course/programme teams
* To monitor student attendance and performance, following up absences and poor behaviour/class work to identify any causes, referring to specialist support as necessary

Experience / Qualifications
Essential Criteria:
* An NVQ Level 3 in Plumbing or equivalent level qualification (e.g. ACS Domestic Gas)
* Cert Ed, P.G.C.E. DTTLS or equivalent or will be required to gain within prescribed time scales
* TDLB awards D32/33 / A1
* Appropriate industrial experience.
* Excellent communication skills and ability to convey and explain concepts in straightforward language
* Ability to offer and help students and clients use a wide variety of learning materials, methods and styles
* Ability to establish productive and supportive working relationships with students, clients and colleagues
* To be able to achieve the accreditation necessary to become an assessor/verifier.
* Good organisational and administrative skills
* Able to maintain standards and good management of learning situations
* Enthusiastic and able to inspire students and clients
* Prepared to participate in new developments and contribute professional advice
* To be positive and optimistic in carrying out duties.
* To have an understanding of, and commitment to Equal Opportunities in practice.
* Motivation to work with children and young people
* Ability to form and maintain appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with children and young people;
* Emotional resilience in working with challenging behaviours
* Attitudes to use of authority and maintaining discipline
Desirable Criteria:
* TDLB awards. - V1
* Apprenticeship or similar formal training.
* Experience of working with apprentices and young people.
