4Children is currently advertising for the job role of Family Outreach Worker based in Stockton.
Salary: £17,161 per annum
Location: Stockton.
Hours: 35 hours per week

Job Purpose:

* To increase the life chances of children, parents & carers. This will be achieved by developing an outreach service to families with children under 5 years of age. To plan and deliver services based on identified needs, working in partnership with organisations and existing services.
* To carry out a programme of work planned in partnership with the Children's Centres Leadership Team.

Job Activities:

* To focus on the needs of families who are vulnerable or socially excluded. Providing practical, personal and emotional support to children and their families in order to meet assessed needs to maintain and promote their health, physical, emotional development and well being.
* To increase the awareness of positive parenting so parents can contribute to their children's development, educational achievements, social prospects, mental health and general well being.
* Contributing to assessments of need as part of wider team and specifically working with lead professionals to support the agreed plan developed through the joint assessment. Part of this will be to actively involve the child and their family in the process.
* Liaison with others, within external statutory and non-statutory services where there may be a need for on going or additional support.
* Working closely with a range of staff from other disciplines in the voluntary services. Providing a link between partner organisations to ensure a consistent and straightforward approach for the family.
* Linking children, parents and carers with local resources and groups to promote a broader range of social activities for isolated families. With the final aim being to support an excluded parent to access services within the Children's Centre and becoming less isolated, more confident and better able to cope as a parent.
* Ensuring that child protection concerns are reported promptly to the Team Manager in accordance with child protection procedures.

* Playing an active role in seeking feedback from children, and their families about the quality and range of service provided to enable continuous development.

* Taking part in staff development, to promote best outcomes for children, young people and their families. This to include an annual performance management appraisal scheme. Participating in such training and development opportunities, which are presented in order to improve personal knowledge, skills and effectiveness.

* Maintaining accurate up to date records and provide reports as required to contribute to the future effectiveness of the Children Centre.

* Being flexible and being prepared to take on other duties (following consultation) which are commensurate with the grade of the post.

* Follow the LOGIC model of reach to maximise services to children and families within the reach area.
PERSON SPECIFICATION

Education & Training

* NVQ Level 3 (Desirable)
* A broad range of GCSE or equivalent (Desirable)

Work Experience

* Experience of working in a supportive relationship with children and their families (Essential)
* Experience of planning activities and programmes for children and their families (Essential)
* Experience of group work with children and their families (Desirable)
* Experience of working with early years settings and schools (Desirable)

Skills & Knowledge

* A knowledge of child development (Essential)

* Knowledge of the issues effecting parent's ability to support their child's development (Essential)

* A commitment to working with children and their families and to ensure their active participation in planning and delivering programmes (Essential)

* Ability to work evenings and weekends as part of the core working hours (Essential)

PRINCIPAL TERMS & CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

FAMILY OUTREACH WORKER

30 days per year plus Bank Holidays (pro rata). Some annual leave will need to be taken at the Christmas period, when the HQ building closes.

4. Salary
The appointment of Family Outreach Worker is at 4Children Grade 2/3. Grade 2/3 commences at scale point 18 (£17,161 per annum) and rises to scale point 24 (£20,858 per annum). 4Children currently uses the National Joint Council (NJC) local authority scale rates. The NJC pay scales are increased on 1 April annually.

5. Method of Pay
Salaries are paid by direct debit into the staff member's nominated bank account on the 15th day of each month.
