Based in Crawley.
We are currently recruiting a Web Designer for the Specialist Holiday Group sector. SHG is part of TUI Travel PLC
Specialist & Activity Sector.

To lead and to drive high levels of performance in the design, development and implementation of TUI UK Applications.

Ensuring appropriate technologies are implemented in line with the overall TUI UK Technical Architecture.

Responsible for ensuring that the system development deliverables are achieved and fully understood by the development
team.

To lead in best practice and develop the system architecture and function in the design, development and implementation
of all new / enhancements to TUI applications in order to deliver the IT changes in an efficient, pragmatic, timely and
cost-effective way.

What You'll Be Doing

* To assess feasibility of new developments and modification of existing.

* To manage internal and external resources to deliver the team objectives and KPI measures.

* Produce quality designs and code for complex systems and subsystems for use in the TUI UK application platforms.

* Mentor and Share technical expertise with junior members of the team.

* Provide work estimates for defined units of work. Evaluate work estimates of team members.

* Work with third-parties involved with application development.

* Manage and Liaise with offshore developers and third party to ensure standards and architectural principles are
applied as appropriate.

* Review the design and code produced by colleagues (some of whom will be overseas based) to ensure it is of good
quality, runs efficiently and adheres to TUI coding standards.

* In conjunction with application services recommend changes to applications to ensure maximum efficiency and
effectiveness in supporting the business.

* Where required to work with the business to capture and analyse requirements, providing technical input in a clear
well-communicated manner. Create suitable design documentation and / or data models for others (including 3rd party
offshore suppliers) to work from.

* Develop an excellent understanding of one or more systems, how these systems support the business, how these systems
interact with other corporate (and 3rd party) applications, and their place in the overall IT architecture.

* Evaluate different technical options for developments which will have a significant contribution to business success,
balancing risk with opportunity.

* Analyse systems proactively to identify problems and trends and propose technical solutions and recommend changes to
optimise system performance and usability.

* To assist the project team and the support team in the transition process, development to support.

* Create documentation to support future maintenance of system and to support operational requirements.

* Work in an agile manner, able to react to last minute changes.

* Responsible for the quality of delivery through the management of the QA team and the use of JUnit and Continuous
Integration.

* Carry out any reasonable task allocated by the senior members of the team.

What We're Looking For

* Experience in high transactional Ecommerce applications

* Experience in software architectural design

* High level of programming skill with Java, XML, XSLT, SQL and J2EE skill set.

* Working knowledge of application servers, JBOSS, Tomcat preferred.

* Working Knowledge of Wicket, Hibernate, Spring.

* Knowledge of MVC frameworks such as Struts, use of HTML, JSP, JavaScript.

* Eclipse, ANT, Jira and source control, e.g. SVN, CVS.

* Strong team player.

* Knowledge of the travel related applications/IT architecture.

* Proven experience of estimating, planning, development methods & lifecycles, Agile methodologies.

* Ability to communicate clearly.

* IT team management, Report writing.

* Adaptable to changing priorities.

* Able to work on own initiative and anticipate workloads.

* Awareness of targets and constraints and ability to work to these.

* Understanding of commercial needs and how they are delivered by various applications.

* Experience in mentoring junior members of a team.

* Willing to cross train in other areas of TUI SKI related applications.
