Lead GP
Dual Site role - covering Sheffield and Derby
40 hours a week
Overall Role Objective: In addition to standard GP practice, the Lead GP role is designed to provide clinical leadership
in the Open Access Centre/Medical Practice in order to ensure the safe, effective and compliant delivery of services to
all patients.
Key working relationships summary:
Group Medical Director - The Lead GP is responsible to and will be supported by the Group Medical Director in the
provision of clinical leadership (including the ongoing development of all clinical staff) at the centre. The Lead GP
will also escalate any clinical issues to the Group Medical Director. In addition, the Lead GP will support the
implementation of clinical strategy in conjunction with the Group Medical Director.
Operations Manager - The Lead GP will report from an operational perspective to the Operations Manager and will provide
the clinical input to support the Operations Manager in centre specific issues or initiatives.
Service Development Manager - The Lead GP will work with the Service Development Manager in the creation and
implementation of the commissioning strategy and new service delivery in the centre.
Clinical Staff - The Lead GP will act as a mentor for all clinical staff in relation to specific clinical tasks and
components required of their role. In addition the Lead GP will support the individuals and the Company Executive in
determining and arranging necessary training for the clinical cohort.
Roles and Responsibilities
Standard GP service delivery
-To provide the full range of Medical Services based on patient needs and centre/practice service offerings.
-To participate in providing a range of services in line with local and national enhanced services
-Supporting the implementation of the Clinical Strategy within the company
-Working with the Group Medical Director, the Lead GP will support the implementation of the group wide clinical
framework for the delivery of services to the community
Clinical Leadership
To operate within, and lead all clinical staff to operate within the clinical governance framework for the
organisation at all times, incorporating service users and carers, audit, guidelines and risk management
Promote and support the business model via the clinical strategy
Ensure effective communication across the clinical team via regular clinical meetings.
Effective communication of changes/amendments to the clinical strategy/protocols to all clinical staff
Mentoring of clinical staff
Provide support and input into the selection of all clinical staff
Provide developmental support in improving systems and organisation of care in conjunction with the Operations Manager
and the Group Medical Director
Participate in clinical audit and take responsibility for specific QOF clinical areas as agreed with the Group Medical
Director.
Development of clinical staff
Take responsibility for the development of clinical staff at the centre/practice.
Conduct performance appraisals in conjunction with the Operations Manager
Support GP's in their appraisal and revalidation process
Take part in the revalidation process as appropriate
Clinical Standards and policies
Ensure clinical staffing levels are maintained in each centre/practice as required by contract and as overseen by the
operations Manager and Group Medical Director.
Human Resources
Provision of support to the HR department and Operations Manager in the selection of appropriate clinical staff
Contract Adherence
Ensure the relevant clinical procedures and systems are in place to enable QOF points to be maximised at the
centre/practice and all clinical KPIs are met.
Conduct the relevant training (clinical and systems) for all clinical staff
Risk Mitigation
Conduct ongoing assessment of potential clinical risks at the centre/practice. Escalate these to the Operations
Manager and Group Medical Director as appropriate.
Support the Group Medical Director in all matters relating to clinical governance
Any additional training needs or opportunities to be raised to the Group Medical Director
Business Development
Lead GP will work with the Group Medical Director, the Lead Nurse and the Operations Manager to support the
implementation of the commissioning strategy across the business. This Includes building strategic relationships with
local healthcare economy
Provide clinical input into any new service procurement bids/service development and subsequent implementation as led
by the Group Medical Director and supported by the Operations Manager and Service Delivery Manager
Build relationships with local health professionals, organisations and any other relevant stakeholders
