Mechanical & Senior Mechanical Engineer (Aircraft BU)
As a leading defence and aerospace organisation we require a Mechanical & Senior Mechanical Engineer to be based within our Aircraft business unit at RAF Waddington, Nr Lincoln.
Business Context
The ASTOR Aircraft Senior Mechanical Systems Design Engineer is responsible for the in service support of the Air Vehicle (Sentinel RMk1) Mechanical Design and reports to the Lead Engineer, Design Support Services - Mechanical Systems based at RAF Waddington.
This position requires a sound knowledge and experience of aircraft structures, repairs and Structural integrity analysis, particularly on mid to large size transport aircraft, with a focus on military variants.
Nature and Scope of Role
The Aircraft Senior Mechanical Systems Design Engineer will be part of a team of 4 and report to the Lead Engineer, Mechanical Systems Design within the Design Support organisation of the ASTOR Whole Life Support Team. They will be responsible for:
* Deputising for the Lead Engineer on all aspects of delivering mechanical systems design activities.
* Developing modification proposals with OEMs for Aircraft structural and mechanical modifications and enhancements.
* Reviewing design solutions with a view to obtaining a CAA, A821 approval for Stress validation
* Progressing structural and mechanical design modifications in accordance with regulatory requirements.
* Analysis of structural and mechanical flight systems design issues, determination of actions and solutions, working in accordance with the WLS task database management tool.
* Liaison with OEM's re defect investigations and corrective actions.
* Providing inputs to the ASTOR Configuration Control Board and take part in Configuration Audits (FCA/PCA).
* Ensuring that all engineering activities undertaken under your control are conducted in accordance with Raytheon UK site procedures that reflects best practice, and is in accordance with Raytheon UK and MAA procedures.
* Support to formal customer reviews, including the Structural Integrity Working Group and Local Technical Committees.
Education and Experience
Essential Degree in Aeronautical or Mechanical Systems Engineering discipline; Proven experience in Military Aircraft Structural Design & Engineering and Aircraft Damage Tolerance Analysis.
Desirable Knowledge and experience of the Bombardier Global Express Aircraft, Def Stan 05-123 and 00-970, experience with FAR Part 25 regulations.
Understanding of RAF Aircraft Documentation. Holder of A821 approvals for stress validation.

Proven years experience of Aircraft Mechanical Systems and Structural Design with an emphasis on aircraft structure and stress analysis.
Proven experience of Aircraft Damage Tolerance Analysis.
Familiarity with and use of Aircraft Structural Repair manuals.
Experience with aircraft mechanical flight systems and fault investigations.
Knowledge of FAR Part 25 and UK MAA Military certification and safety regulations
Familiarity with Microsoft Windows based software.
