Lecturer in Sociology and Social Care (Fixed Term)

£20,122 - £35,325 per annum pro rata (i.e. £16,098 - £28,260) per annum

We are seeking to recruit a Lecturer in Sociology and Social Care to deliver a high quality learning experience to students studying AS/A level or Access (to HE) in Sociology and BTEC Health Care.

You will have a related level 4 qualification and relevant teaching or industry experience. A teaching qualification is desirable.

This is a fixed term role for 1 year.

Chichester College is a great place to learn, they currently have 15,000 full and part-time students enrolled. Based in a very attractive part of West Sussex, the College is located over 2 campuses.

Description of duties

* To undertake teaching and learning related activities, including tutoring, as agreed.
* To undertake the delivery of Functional Skills.
* To ensure that appropriate learning materials are prepared and assessments and assignments are undertaken in a timely manner.
* To undertake administration and provide reports and statistics regarding student and teaching matters.
* To develop curricula and learning activities, taking into consideration Functional Skills development and equality and diversity.
* To participate in marketing activities and promote the College for the purpose of gaining sponsorship, advertising, good public relations and increased recruitment.

Essential Criteria - Experience, Qualifications and Knowledge:

* Level 4 qualification in Sociology
* To obtain an appropriate teaching qualification as defined by Lifelong Learning UK (LLUK)
* Relevant industrial/commercial experience
* Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Powerpoint
* Time management skills, organisational skills and the ability to meet targets and deadlines
* Ability to communicate to a diverse range of people at all levels, verbally and in writing
* Ability to work alone and as part of a team with interpersonal skills
* IT and keyboard skills, including the use of email
* Ability to manage challenging behaviour
* Ability to solve problems and make decisions
* Flexible in approach
* Innovative and creative in meeting the needs of learners
* Committed to student support
* To undertake continuing professional development as defined by the LLUK
* To become a member of the Institute for Learning and obtain ATLS or QTLS as required
* Satisfactorily meeting the College's employment checks - an Independent Safeguarding Authority and/or Criminal Records Bureau check, health assessment, references, qualifications and legal entitlement to work in the UK

Desirable Criteria - Experience, Qualifications and Knowledge:

* Level 2 literacy and numeracy
* Assessor or Verifier units
* A Certificate in Education or Post Graduate Certificate in Education
* Teaching and assessing learners
* Curriculum delivery and associated administration
* Experience of managing diverse groups of students
* Experience of working within Further Education
* Health and social care experience
* Knowledge of application of digital technology to learning
* Understanding of virtual learning environments and online learning
* Knowledge of health and safety legislation
* Knowledge of the Equality Act 2010
* An understanding of safeguarding vulnerable groups

Hours: 29.6 hours week (This is a fixed term post for 1 year)
