Head of Events / Director



The Head of Events will lead, manage and develop a team of events specialists and play an active role in the wider Event Marketing leadership team. He/she will work with internal and external clients to develop strategic event programmes which support strategic business objectives He/she will design, develop and deliver internal/external events for domestic, international and global audiences.

Client Management
The role holder will manage internal client relationships. This will involve driving the annual event budget planning process with each business area which includes; working with the business to understand the business and marketing objectives, developing a strategic programme of events activity which is aligned to wider marketing objectives and activities, and forecasting size and scale of events activity.

The role holder will work with internal clients to analyse their business objectives for each event and develop creative/innovative event solutions to include; embedding events governance and best practice across cluster, advising and guiding the business areas in all aspects of events management where delivery falls out of scope, for example, making recommendations on content so that the target audience receives maximum benefit, using knowledge of venues, making appropriate recommendations and supporting negotiation of costs and supporting the end-to-end planning process.

Strategic Projects
The role holder will oversee the constant development of delegate management and measurement strategies and systems. They will manage supplier review and ad hoc projects including analysis of spend, where further cost savings may be gained, negotiation of competitive prices whilst maintaining high quality service levels and establish team objectives that support the overall business strategy.

Event Design and Delivery
The role holder will be expected supervise the team in developing creative event solutions and get the best deal for X by delivering leading edge events that exceed clients' expectations and are memorable and educational. Critical to this role will be the ability to work with key business stakeholders to help develop a comprehensive events programme which includes; identifying and researching key industry issues that are relevant and of interest to clients, developing these issues into a full event/conference programme, which includes identifying and securing potential speakers, writing the copy for the programme and for the invitations. They will maintain effective relationships with internal clients/colleagues and external suppliers/production agencies throughout event design/delivery stages to ensure expectations are managed, as well as costs contained without compromising quality. They will also manage event budgets, tracking spend and ensuring suppliers and paid promptly and internal clients' expectations are managed. Managing and analysing post event feedback from internal clients and delegates. The role holder will manage sponsorships and corporate hospitality programmes for the business as required. They will attend events and manage all on site arrangements as required; this involves managing any issues so that the event runs smoothly. The role is multi-faceted, requiring the candidate to be both a strategic thinker and help create a vision for the future of the event plan, in addition to managing people and delivering event initiatives in the short to long term to support the business.

Professional/technical experience
The right candidate will establish and maintain knowledge within their professional area of expertise, to ensure technical ability is relevant and up-to-date, enabling successful performance in the position. They will demonstrate a good industry and business understanding with experience of translating commercial dynamics into value-led business events. Sound knowledge of global venues will be especially useful in this role.

The successful candidate will have a sound knowledge of how production companies work and a solid working knowledge of software applications. They will be able to demonstrate well developed communications/presentation skills with proven negotiation/influencing expertise and supplier management.

Managerial experience
It is essential for the role holder to have previous management experience which will include successful leadership and development of teams.

Academic and professional qualifications
The successful candidate will ideally be educated to a degree level of equivalent. They will have advanced PC skills (Excel/Word/PowerPoint/Database management).

Personal attributes
Client focused with good communication skills and the ability to influence others. Strong business sense in essential as are excellent time management skills. The right candidate will have a positive, inspirational outlook to implement change and be adaptable and flexible.
