A .NET Technical Architect is responsible for architecture, high-level design and overall technical ownership of an application or suite of applications and to be a source of knowledge and governance for other members in the development team in relation to technology, standards and best practice.

- Undertake technical ownership, architecture, high-level design, initial prototyping and oversee delivery of a large or complex projects, either developed with an external development partner or internally.
- Understand the business and non-functional requirements, and to identify a suitable architecture (including broader technologies, application structure and conceptual approaches).that best meets any relevant budgetary and/or timescale constraints.
- Broad awareness of computing technology and the ability to identify and advise on the broader technology requirements (eg software, hardware, networking, 3rd party products) needed for a complete solution.
- Accommodate external architectural influences to ensure best fit for the customer and its longer term strategy:
- The overall Solution Architecture (including infrastructure design).
- Any overarching business requirements (commercial, organisational) and technical requirements (enterprise architecture, data ownership, technical strategy) of the customer.
- The technical and application architecture of any related in-house or third party applications or systems, eg for extension or integration.
- Deliver Architecture and related technical documentation to a high level of quality, and communicate technical concepts verbally and in written form to a variety of technical and non-technical audiences.
- Be able to demonstrate, communicate and implement recognised frameworks, design patterns, tools and standards in relation to the Microsoft technology stack
- Demonstrable approach to providing technical mentoring and thought leadership to other members of the team.
- Attend workshops with customers and internal personnel to assist in the definition of requirements, including providing advice and guidance in the exploration of technical options.
- Contribute towards and support new bids.
- Detailed estimation and planning of a large or complex project or programme, identifying and mitigating risks and allowing for inter- and intra- dependencies.
- Assess the impact of Requests for Change and provide estimates for development and delivery.
- To impartially asses new technologies, products and frameworks and compare potential solutions.
- Work alongside other teams in the provision of a single seamless service to the customer.
- Produce and have a mature approach to documentation and distribution of knowledge.
- Ensure that quality control and quality assurance procedures are performed in accordance with development standards.

Essential Experience/Skills

- Software Industry experience including all parts of the development life cycle.
- Strong and demonstrable experience in developing enterprise level distributed applications (including a detailed understanding of the entire .net technology stack)
- Good working knowledge of a range of .net frameworks, such as MVC, Web Tier frameworks.
- Understand and be familiar with of a broad range of Microsoft application Servers including CRM Dynamics, BizTalk, SharePoint.
- An understanding of SOA and web service design principles and other design patterns
- Knowledge of best-practice development QA techniques, such as Test-Driven Development and Continuous Integration.
- A detailed understanding of infrastructure, networking, and common Industry Technical Standards and protocols (W3C, IETF, WS-*).
- Experience with modelling and UML
- Excellent written and verbal communication (English)
- Experience with ITIL and Support Services.
- An understanding of UK Government Technical Standards (such as e-GIF and HMG InfoSec).
