Private Client Solicitor / Trusts / Tunbridge Wells

Our client is one of the leading law firms in Kent with a reputation for providing high quality, intelligent advice, providing legal service that is comprehensive, considered and confident. They are heavily involved in building long-term relationships by encouraging a culture of respect, understanding and excellence. They currently have a vacancy for a Private Client Solicitor or FILEX to Manage the Tax and Trusts team.

The Department gives sound advice on estate planning issues including tax and trust matters, handles complex and substantial estates and is recognised for its specialist experience involving people who lack capacity to make decisions for themselves.

The Private Client Department, comprising of 22 Fee Earners and 16 support staff is divided into three divisions: Tax Planning; Court of Protection and Probate and Trust Management.

Probate and Trust Management Division
The successful use of trusts requires effective management. The specialist Trust Management team looks after the administration, accounting and taxation aspects of running a trust.

In addition to advice on trust creation, the team provides a trust management support service to the trustees of pre-existing and newly established trusts.

The Role
Trust Manager Role: The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years recent relevant experience of working as a Private Client Solicitor, preferably with STEP or CTA qualification and team leadership skills.

Main function of job is to contribute to the overall success of the Private Client Department by providing legal services to clients, this includes supervisory skills..

You will supervise the Trust and Tax team of five, including support staff, as directed by the Division Head. Your main duties will be to take on a variety of existing trust management clients and build up the portfolio. The substantial portfolio is made up of the following types of trusts: Bare Trusts, A&M Trusts, Discretionary Trusts, IIP Trusts and Charitable Trusts.

You will also provide technical support to others in the Trust and Tax team, other Private Client teams including Tax Planning, Probate and Court of Protection; and other Departments within firm such as Residential Conveyancing, Family, Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence.

You will be required to help develop the workloads of the other team members, mentor, supervise and assist, as required, in the training, development and supervision of members of the team and work with the Division Head on Business Development. Actively participate in firm, department and individual plans for targeted and effective Business Development.

The Practice
The firm is a major regional practice with two offices in Kent and their clients are predominantly listed and unlisted companies including subsidiaries of overseas multinationals, public and third sector organisations, financial institutions, company directors and shareholders and owner managed businesses and High Net Worth individuals.
