Business Intelligence Engineer

Our client is a fast growing digital start-up in Atlanta using web and mobile technologies to help wholesale marketplace participants identify, communicate and transact with trading partners. The business will leverage technologies, capabilities and assets from the wholesale and retail segments to help customers to find what they need and to trade more efficiently and effectively than would otherwise be possible.

The results oriented Business Intelligence Engineer we need, will be responsible for working with internal customers on business needs, translating business needs into analytics/reporting requirements, and interfacing with internal business owners to ensure successful delivery of reporting.

Our client's application is a SaaS application using an Agile Scrum development methodology, with frequent deploys, and test driven development. The web application development language is Ruby and the database is Mongo DB.

The Senior BI Developer role requires a highly technical individual that has the ability to communicate to their customers using business friendly terminology. The successful candidate must have a track record of working with the business and IT professionals in a dynamic, quickly evolving, and fast-paced start up environment. Excellent analytical skills and the ability to promote and work within a team environment are essential.

Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

* Work closely and interact directly with business owners and Technology staff to solve real-world business problems.

* Obtain and maintain a working knowledge of our client's applications, customers and business units

* Build a complete understanding of existing data structures and reporting systems

* Translate business requirements and build reporting solutions through the use of open source tools such as Pentaho, Jasper and/or Talend as well using Google Analytics, MixPanel, etc.

* Provide on-going support for business stakeholders in relation to existing reports, data processes and data definitions

* Analyze, design, and provide data mapping documentation and provide data specifications for integrating new data.

* Build multi-dimensional or relational data structures as necessary

* Make process and systems improvement recommendations that assist the business in achieving its goals and objectives, leveraging best practices and professional experiences

* Proactively work to identify, communicate and resolve project issues and risks that interfere with project execution or success

* Assist project teams in documenting specifications for application functionality, and documenting and executing test plans and test scripts

* Demonstrated ability to effectively work on multiple assignments, activities or projects as required

* Manage individual work load and assist with defining and prioritizing one's own tasks

* Stay current with industry trends

Qualifications:

* 5+ years working with querying languages along with data warehousing techniques and data integration

* Experience with NoSQL (eg MongoDB, SimpleDB, CouchDB) is a plus.

* Knowledgable in Web technologies and Web services APIs.

* Experience using a reporting tool such as Business Objects, Crystal Reports

* Exposure to a Server Side language (eg Ruby on Rails, Java, PHP...)

* Exposure to development in Agile environment

* Experience with relevant business software, including Microsoft Office applications ie, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, etc.

* Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Computer Science or Engineering; or equivalent work experience.
