Hardware/Software Design Engineer

Essential Skills
*Fundamental knowledge of ANSI C programming in Embedded systems.
*Embedded design experience including a working knowledge of low level hardware and systems.
*Familiarity with Real Time systems
*Good working knowledge of analogue and digital electronics, especially in the context of data acquisition and signal processing of complex low S/N signals
*Experience of serial communication programming including I2C, SPI, CAN, UART, TCP/IP
*Experience with Microprocessor based measurement and control systems
*Experience in PCB layout design

Qualifications and Experience
*First or 2:1 Degree level (or equivalent) qualification in instrumentation or electronics or electrical engineering or physics
*Minimum of 3 years relevant experience gained in an engineering or scientific environment.
*Good communicator able to work co-operatively in a team environment.
Key Responsibilities
*Work under the supervision of a senior engineer to develop low level code and Middleware for Real Time hardware operation.
*Contribute to the development of complex high sensitivity scientific instrumentation
*Gain detailed knowledge and understanding of existing software designs.
*Support and maintain existing software and related products
*Produce clear and concise design documentation of software designs.
*Maintain an up to date knowledge of technical and commercial developments relevant to the company
*Able to work to a project plan, tracking progress, identifying risks, anticipating delays and communicating such to the project leader
*Experienced with analysing and or processing complex data/signals.
*Excellent communication skills
*Work to deadlines and bring projects in on time and within budget
*Any other reasonable duties
