What does the role involve?
This is an exciting opportunity to develop your skills and progress your career with Vanquis Bank. Reporting to the Legal Director, this role will sit within the Legal and Compliance team based in our London Office. You will be responsible for ensuring that the business complies with all legal and regulatory requirements.
Key responsibilities
Direction Setting
* To contribute to the development of a compliance culture within the business
* To contribute to the Compliance Committee
* To develop Compliance to meet future regulatory requirements and influence future regulation
* To develop compliance strategies in cooperation with the business to achieve Business objectives
* To act as a subject matter expert
People Management
* To provide leadership to the compliance team and the AML team ensuring that the teams are kept informed of all major business developments and in particular those with major regulatory impact
* To ensure that objectives are set annually for the teams and that appraisals and development discussions take place on a regular and meaningful basis
* To ensure that the required level of skills and competence are in place within the Compliance/AML team to meet the business demands
* To coach and mentor compliance or legal staff
Financial Management
* Manage the compliance team within the budgets allocated by the Director of Legal
Customer and Relationship Management
* Provide practical compliance and input into all aspects of the business
* Deliver a high quality, efficient and "can do" regulatory service to all aspects of the business
* Assist in the Management of the relationship with regulators including the OFT/ Information Commissioner
* Contribute and facilitate relationships with UK Cards
* Liaise with both internal and external service providers to support the business
Risk Governance and Compliance Management
* To deliver reports on compliance and AML issues to the Legal Director and the Compliance Committee
* To be responsible for FSA and other regulatory reporting
* If required to act as Company Secretary , attending board meetings and liaising with Provident Financial Group Secretariat
* To contribute as required to the Compliance Committee
* To manage the delivery of a compliance plan and ensure ongoing compliance monitoring programme
* To approve policies and procedures
* To deputise for the Legal Director at the Credit Committee (If required)
* To provide /support HR with regulatory training
* To ensure the Business complies with all legal and regulatory requirements covering:
o Consumer Credit Legislation
o OFT Guidance
o FSA requirements
o Compliance
o Anrti Money laundering
o Lending Code
o Data Protection Act
o Offcom o AML
o Financial Promotions
o Documentation/scripts
o CCA Advertising
o E-commerce
Project Management
* Provide compliance advice to strategic and regulatory projects
Skills and Experience
Essential:
* At least 10 years post qualification legal experience gained in the financial services sector at a senior level in house
* Experience of working in a regulated environment
* Broad compliance experience
* Proven ability to manage/influence key influencers and decision makers
* Strong communication skills both written and verbal
* Proven ability to manage others using a range of managerial styles
* Time management and organisational skills
* Self starter with a hands-on approach
* Used to balancing commercial considerations with regulatory obligations
* Ability to prioritise especially when under pressure
