A leading membership body based in London.
To lead on environmental issues, including climate change, waste and resource efficiency and product sustainability. The role holder will be able to demonstrate strong technical expertise and experience, with excellent knowledge of the environmental issues affecting the retail sector.
THE ROLE
The key accountabilities of the role will include:
- To be responsible for the development and delivery of Environment Policy, together with leadership of the Environment Policy Action Group and the membership committee.
- To be responsible for the development and publication of a Better Retailing Climate, our key vehicle for communicating environmental and sustainable progress to parliamentarians and policy officials, NGO's and other stakeholders.
- To represent the organisation with Government stakeholder groups in all the UK nations and Europe on issues including:
- Product sustainability
- Waste policy
- Climate change adaptation
- Communications
- to represent the organisation to external audiences and specialist media in association with internal media colleagues.
- Supporting and advising on impacts of environmental legislation and any required implementation for compliance purposes
- To establish a strong network of key officials and stakeholders within the UK and Europe to build alliances designed to deliver pragmatic and evidenced based measures to safeguard the environment as part of a vibrant future for retailing.
- To be a pro-active, supportive member of the Food and Sustainability team
The ideal role holder will be:
- A consummate communicator with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the strategic issues in the current and emerging environmental and sustainable consumption and production agenda.
- An enthusiastic self-starter, able to use initiative to understand the organisations Members' perspectives and relate this to the development of appropriate opportunities for raising both the retail industry and the organisations profile.
- Able to demonstrate credibility to represent the organisation with senior external contacts, including Government officials and environmental NGO's.
- A trusted and pro-active team player, supporting team colleagues in driving a culture of continual improvement.
- Able to debate and challenge constructively, using a range of communication and influencing skills.
Where specific UK qualifications are required we will take into account overseas equivalents.
