Environment Associate (approx 2-4 PQE) - Sheffield

Top tier Sheffield firm with a leading national department in environmental, health and safety and related regulatory advice, undertaking both contentious and non-contentious work. The team are experienced in dealing with a full range of regulatory issues, including policy development and strategic advice to companies.

The department is widely acclaimed, advising many of the Firm's corporate and property clients on risk assessment and risk apportionment on a wide variety of corporate, property and financing transactions (both domestic and cross-border). On the contentious side the department is at the leading edge of environmental and health & safety regulation and one of the premier defendant practices dealing with prosecutions relating to pollution, health and safety and consumer law.

The Role:

Dealing with a variety of Health and Safety and Environmental matters which will involve assisting with enforcement action taken by the HSE, Environment Agency and Local Authorities. The successful candidate will deal with their own cases and assist others with theirs.

Clients are based nationally and a willingness to travel is therefore essential. Team members attend the aftermath of serious incidents such as fatalities, deal with internal investigations, prepare witness statements, and attend court hearings and inquests.

The Person:

The successful candidate will have gained excellent relevant experience from a recognised Environment department of a major or medium sized Firm and have:

- A strong academic background
- Health and safety or similar regulatory experience
- Good team working skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- A flexible approach to client demands
- An ability to demonstrate involvement and contribution to practice development and business development activities
- An ability to liaise closely with other teams within the Firm, as and when necessary
