Principal Mechanical Engineers :

Highly successful Defence Organisation based in Stevenage, Hertfordshire is currently looking to recruit 6x Principal Mechanical Engineers to work on exiting existing and future programmes.

The Mechanical Engineering department is currently looking to recruit a number of Mechanical Engineers to fit into a variety of different positions. The roles are to undertake a full range of engineering activities in line with all relevant process, quality and other requirements, supplying specialist advice and support across projects for Test Equipment, Packaging and Tooling design. Pro-Engineer skills are always sought after - other CAD design skills will also be considered, possibly Solidworks.

Please Note: you must be eligible for SC (Secret Level) Security Clearance if you’re not already cleared to that level.

Principal Mechanical Engineers Job Description:

To undertake a full range of engineering activities in line with all relevant process, quality and other requirements, supplying specialist advice and support across projects and to other functions as appropriate

• Responsible for generation and delivery of concept and manufacturing design definitions, based on technical specifications, requirements and other constraints.
• Participate in developing and maintaining relevant engineering processes and procedures.
• Plan, control and deliver assigned projects or work packages, ensuring requirements are delivered to plan and budget.
• Support the identification of business opportunities and the preparation of bids.
• Define appropriate test programs for design verification and make results-based recommendations on their outcome, including suggestions for improving test/diagnosis process.
• Generate applicable interface requirements and other specifications as required.
• Present work in various forums as required.
• Keep up to date in relevant technical areas; develop skills and capabilities and supply support and expertise to others as required.
• Act as the main point of contact with customers (internal and external) and/or suppliers and collaborators on assigned engineering matters.
• Lead engineering support activities in the field and for assigned products; develop documentation to support in-service use.
• Lead a small sub-team as required.

Skills / Experience:

• Knowledge & experience in mechanical or electro-mechanical design.
• Significant practical experience and min HND/HNC required.
• Relevant 3D CAD skills required.
• Pro-Engineer experience is useful
• Experience in more than one phase of the engineering life cycle, with sufficient experience of the total life cycle to ensure a good understanding of adjacent phases and through-life engineering issues
• Commercial and financial awareness; able to manage budgets
• Capable of managing projects/work packages
• People and team management capabilities
• Able to mentor other, more junior staff, as appropriate
• Able to deal with multiple issues, tasks and priorities concurrently
• Substantial analytical and problem solving skills
• Knowledge of customer and user requirements
• Full understanding of relevant engineering and quality standards
• Communicate verbally and in writing in a style appropriate to the audience; proven
• Up to date knowledge of all issues in relevant specialist area(s)
• Understanding of structural/thermal analysis would be an advantage.
