Campaign for School Gardening: Schools' Advisor - North East
The Children's Foundation, Central Newcastle
18.75 hours per week
Circa 23,000 per annum pro rata
1 Year Fixed Term
Do you want to help the RHS Campaign for School Gardening get more schools growing in the North East? Could you support schools who want to raise their pupils' achievement, self-esteem and care of the environment through gardening? Could you inspire children and young people, teachers, parents and community volunteers to get involved? Then this rewarding role, supported by The Children's Foundation, will suit you down to the ground.
We need a keen horticulturist with excellent communications skills to train young people, teachers and volunteers in practical gardening skills so that they can develop and manage their own projects to the benefit of themselves, their environment and their local community.
Working with the Excelsior Academy in west Newcastle and a group of networked primary schools, you will provide interactive, practical gardening sessions to demonstrate seasonal tasks and planning with links to the curriculum and healthy eating. You'll work closely with the schools to get everyone on board, including young people, teachers, support staff, governors, parents and community volunteers. While helping these schools to develop, you'll also carry out training events for teachers and local residents from the surrounding area and provide technical support and advice.
