Java Developer (Swing) / Java Swing Developer - London, Chelsea (SW3) - 45,000 to 50,000 +/- DOE - Ref: 10108
We have an exciting opportunity for an experience Java Swing Developer to join a fast-growing, award-winning Java desktop
data integration, visualisation and reporting software development company. The role involves independent and team-based
work on their core application. This is a cutting-edge custom Java Swing/HTML5-based interactive, user-facing application
used by a fast growing number of blue-chip clients.
The successful applicant will be given ongoing opportunities to grow with this 8-year old company (based in the
attractive Kings Road/Chelsea SW3 area of London) as it further develops the desktop application to address a portfolio
of new features and initiatives such as GIS, financial trading connectors, exportable Flash dashboards, and HTML 5
exports providing local browser-plus interfaces for online cloud-based applications, and other media-rich interactions
with web services.
We are looking for solid commercial experience of building rich custom Java Swing visual apps with back-end data
manipulation, and/or advanced JavaScript/CSS/HTML5 complex web applications (not just web design) programming for
tablets/smart phones.
You should have commercial experience of Java in general, and some experience of customised Swing, user interface
development, Java collections framework, software algorithms, possibly with SQL & JDBC/database programming, drawing
custom graphics & components, source control systems (e.g. CVS, Subversion, SourceSafe), modern development environment
(e.g. Eclipse), Apache Ant, etc.
For Java programmers, the more common J2EE and Spring (rather than Swing) experience is NOT RELEVANT. We're only
interested in solid desktop user graphical interface experience (primarily customised Swing).
Essential skills, Knowledge and Experience:
* commercial experience in Java using Swing as a primary skill
* full development cycle experience
* project management experience: works alone and in a team
* experience in QA and maintenance as well as development
* "born programmer" with logical mind and a positive can-do attitude
* ability to self-motivate
* ability to work in a highly dynamic environment
* ability to solve problems and think unassisted
* ability to communicate about software functionality with non-developers
* Degree educated in area of maths, sciences or technology with multiple A levels
Desirable skills, Knowledge and Experience:
* "Eclipse" development environment
* "Ant" build tool
* Software change management (SCM),in particular "Subversion"
* Experience in at least one of:
- SQL and JDBC
- Data visualisation in Java
- Data-driven Swing
- Usability, intuitive GUIs, commercial desktop software development
