Transmission Design Engineer

We are currently recruiting on behalf of a leading telecommunications company, for a Transmission Design Engineer on a contractual basis.

As a Transmission Design Engineer, you will be expected to work with the transmission design team of managed services organisation delivering into major mobile operators, whilst producing technical designs, documentation, and planning guidelines for the introduction of new equipment, features and functionality into customers' access network with an emphasis on Ethernet transport. The Transmission Design Engineer should be a subject matter expert on Ethernet/IP transport within mobile access networks and be able to advise customers on transformation of access transmission networks from legacy PDH / ATM transmission equipment to Ethernet transport technologies.

As Transmission Design Engineer your responsibilities will include:
*Capture design requirements at customer facing meetings
*Perform technical reviews and impact assessments for delivery of design activities against customer work requests
*Provide budget and resource estimates for in scope transmission design work to project management organisation
*Perform high level and detailed design work for introduction of new equipment, features, functionality into the customer access transmission network
*Produce High Level and Low Level design documents
*Produce transmission planning guidelines, procedures and process documents as used by regional planning & deployment teams
*Test of solution designs in the customer test network environment - produce test plans, set up test environment, lead the testing activities and produce test exit reports
*Trial of the solution in the live customer network - define, plan, setup, oversee, analyse results produce trial report & present recommendations to the customer
*Capacity planning, modelling, analysis and performance reporting of network elements


The client is looking for candidates with a strong background in telecoms / transmission design roles, excellent knowledge in design/planning and deployment of IP/Ethernet transport solutions and excellent knowledge of transmission technologies used in 2G/3G mobile operator networks. Additional competencies that our client is looking for include:
*Excellent knowledge of Microwave radio networks, with a design/planning background of modern Ethernet capable Microwave, such as Ericsson Minilink TN, Ceragon IP10/640, NSN, SIAE
*Knowledge / design understanding of LTE
*Demonstrable ability in design, delivery or rollout of Ethernet transmission within mobile operator networks.
*Excellent knowledge of Ethernet switching, MPLS networks, defining and configuring QoS
If may be considered an advantage if you have a proven background in project management and government I customer facing roles, together with knowledge of NSN RAN transmission and lub configuration.
