Principal Electronics & Software Engineer - Hampshire - 45k - 55K + benefits - Permanent

Purpose:
Lead engineer for the electronics function within leading designer and manufacturer of optical fibre-based lasers for use in materials processing applications in a wide range of industries is required. You will be developing electronics system solutions for Pulsed and High Power System Laser products in both hardware and software. Engineering involvement will include full product life cycle from design and development, prototyping, verification and validation and transfer to manufacture.

Key Areas of Responsibility:
Working in a multidisciplinary team as Principal Engineer providing electronics system solutions for the full portfolio products.
Hands on design including hardware, software and firmware for new product developments and existing product improvements.
Assessing the most cost-effective solution for design and development challenges, including decisions on out-sourcing versus internal design.
Verification and validation of new designs to demonstrate world class reliability and to ensure compliance to appropriate standards.
Working in a multidisciplinary team developing fiber lasers to grow market share as a Laser supplier and to introduce higher performance and lower cost products.
A key part of the role will be to liaise with product marketing in the early definition stages of design and to interact with customers as required.

Required Experience:

Essential:
Minimum 10 years industrial experience as an electronics engineer with skills in both hardware and software and a proven track record of bringing complex electronics development projects to successful fruition. Experience should include user interface environments and hardware control, whilst directing electronics hardware development teams.
Delivering projects to time, cost and quality deadlines within a Matrix development organization.
Proven track record in developing and coaching engineers across multiple disciplines within a development environment.
Experience in managing outsourced packages of work with external partners/vendors.
Good IT. skills.

Preferable:
The ideal candidate will also have developed PC based applications for running industrial machines, including data-logging and analysis tools.
Familiarity with Fiber Optic or Laser based products.
Familiar with both European and North American regulatory approval processes
Demonstrable design compliance with appropriate safety and EMC standards

Qualifications:
Preferably educated to Masters or higher level qualification in a relevant engineering discipline.
Minimum 2.1 in a relevant Bachelor degree in Electronic/Electrical Engineering.
