Controls Projects Engineer / HVAC

My client specialising in the design and manufacture of offsite-built packaged plant solutions predominantly for the building services HVAC industry. They supply solutions to end users across the UK and further afield. The company is a member of BSRIA and places strong emphasis on innovation and technology and is at the forefront of improvements in offsite construction and the integration of energy-efficient and renewable HVAC solutions.

Job Description:

Office based, reporting to the Projects and Engineering Manager, the Controls Projects Engineer will define, design and develop, control and automation systems for Building Services HVAC applications (motor drives, controls and monitoring systems for pumps, valves, chiller and boiler plants).

Prepare detailed documentation of requirements specifications, functional specifications, control schematics, control loop diagrams, point to point diagrams, etc to specifications and relevant standards / legislation.

Liaison with the in-house project engineers, CAD group, materials group and manufacturing team.

Liaison with external clients, consulting engineers, BMS contractors and other stakeholders.

Technical support, control of design documents and deliverables, inspections, and commissioning.

Develop and maintain expertise in control system design standards, relevant legislation, industry norms and innovation.

Candidate Specification:
*Qualified to a minimum of HNC level or equivalent in electrical engineering or similar
*Knowledge of control methodologies and algorithms for HVAC systems
*Work experience of closed loop control in inverter applications
*Good communication and interpersonal skills
*Knowledge of Carel programming platform would be an advantage
*Knowledge of interfacing with third party systems via industrial networks (BACnet / LON / MODBUS etc)

Principle Responsibilities
1. Design authority.

2. Electromechanical design of individual control solutions

3. Estimating and tender/quotation submission.

4. Liaison with client/stakeholders.

5. Project planning and capital equipment procurement.

6. Cost control.

7. Development & promotion of the company's engineered products & services

8. Adherence to ISO 9001, ISO 14001and other National Standards.

Key Tasks

1.Carry out contract review to ensure programme can be met, technical details are ok and price is correct.
2.Review & interpretation of customer enquiries and specifications.
3.Produce schematic and initial design submissions including technical submissions where necessary.
4.Attend design meetings with client as and when required
5.Carry out site survey (if necessary).
6.Site commissioning of controls aspect of overall project.
7.Produce sketch or outline designs for quotation purposes.
8.Carry out design risk assessment.
9.Organise & produce CAD drawings using proprietary design software
10.Check and approve drawings.
11.Prepare production BoM's and issue production / testing instructions.
12.Supplier liaison, identification of product development in the market and capitalise on opportunities available.
13.Organise planning/programming of project with overall project manager.
14.Take responsibility for internal project control including:
*Requests for information
*Variations
*Delays

15.Assist in preparation of O & M manuals.
16.Maintaining project in BaaN
17.Monitor physical progress and quality of projects.
18.Consider the environment when designing new products and procedures.
