Job Description

PL/SQL Developer

Please note these roles will be located in London & Runcorn.

The main purpose of the PL/SQL Developer role is to be responsible for database design, development and performance. This role focuses on software development of specific customer database systems.

The range of activities and tasks to be undertaken by the PL/SQL Developer are:

Be a technical authority and member of the development team for Oracle 10g and 11g.
Hands on development of PL/SQL.
Provide extensive database support to development teams as a champion of SQL quality and performance.
Provide guidance to architects, designers and business analysts to find optimal technical solutions.
Design new schema extensions and stored procedures. Sign off schema and stored procedure designs from other teams.
Lead efforts to optimise and tune database performance.
Work within the clients technical standards and help to shape new ones.
Lead and work on technical proof of concepts.
Mentor other members of staff with a view to improving the clients database focused capabilities.
Ensure that developers are fully supported, including conducting peer code reviews.
Keep up to date on current and emerging technology. Use technology to improve business operations, efficiency and cost effectiveness.
Point of contact for the support team, investigating and resolving issues found in production
plan and undertake changes to software as agreed with the customer or internal organizations;
prepare and produce documentation as required;
database design;
maintain up to date awareness of developments in IT industry and identify how appropriate ones can be applied to customer organisations;
maintain good liaison with other teams;
maintain good liaison with customer representatives, Service Managers and Account Development Managers in order to identify and develop new opportunities;
undertake leadership responsibilities for projects when required;
Job Requirements

This role will require knowledge and experience of the following:

Oracle experience as a designer at a DBA level which will focus on SQL programming, schema design and optimisation.
Unix and Shell Scripting is preferable
Proven track record of driving database quality forward within a large development team.
Experience of large scale databases is essential.
TOAD experience is desirable.
Good interpersonal skills for dealing with the business and team members.
Agile experience is beneficial
.A thorough understanding of Oracle RDBMS platform to version 11gR2
Oracle RAC
Oracle Enterprise Manager desirable
Database Performance Tuning Utilities
SQL/PLSQL and performance tuning of queries and procedures is essential
Data warehousing
