Job Description

Please note these roles will be located in London and Runcorn.

The main purpose of the Oracle DBA role is to provide input to the development, maintenance and support of specific customer database systems and to ensure that the service provided to customers, meets the established Service Level Agreements and quality standards.

The range of activities and tasks to be undertaken by the Oracle DBA are:

investigate and resolve problems;
plan and undertake changes to software as agreed with the customer or internal organizations;
assess user requirements and formulate technical specifications that are cost effective and accurately meet the identified needs;
design, test, implement and maintain database monitoring;
monitor database capacity and usage; assist in planning for future capacity requirements;
prepare and produce documentation as required;
database design;
set-up and maintain back-up and recovery procedures;
assist with the design, testing and implementation of disaster recovery routines and procedures;
contribute technical support on projects;
maintain up to date awareness of developments in IT industry and identify how appropriate ones can be applied to customer organisations;
maintain good liaison with other teams;
maintain good liaison with customer representatives, Service Managers and Account Development Managers in order to identify and develop new opportunities;
undertake leadership responsibilities for projects when required;
provide on-the-job training and coaching to junior staff within the area and help with the induction of new recruits;

Job Requirements

This role will require knowledge and experience of the following:

A thorough understanding of Oracle RDBMS platform to version 11gR2
Oracle RAC
Oracle Data Guard
Oracle RMAN
Oracle Enterprise Manager
Database Performance Tuning Utilities
Oracle Network Administration
Unix Administration
SQL/PLSQL and performance tuning of queries and procedures
Data warehousing
Oracle installs and upgrades
