There are some children who, despite all their best efforts and that of their teachers, do not make the progress they
need when working in a small group or whole class setting. Without an individualised approach to aid their learning it
may be hard for these children to make the progress needed to achieve their full potential.
To support the needs of these children the DCSF has introduced a program of one-to-one tuition for pupils who are falling
behind in English and/or Mathematics.
One-to-one tuition is being rolled out nationally to pupils in Key Stages 2, 3 and (in National Challenge school) in Key
Stage 4.
Randstad Education are working in partnership with schools across a number of Local Authorities to help meet the demand
for these tutors to work on a 1:1 basis with pupils
Primary Tutors
1:1 Primary tutors will be required to liaise with the class teacher of the selected pupil or pupils to plan work which
will complement the usual Literacy and Numeracy provision. Helping to develop the child in specifically identified areas
of their learning following assessment by their teacher. 1:1 tuition can be before or after school or within normal
school hours.
Secondary Tutors
Tutors working with Key Stage 3 or 4 pupils will be required to work with identified pupils delivering 10 x 1 hour
sessions in Numeracy and Literacy.

- Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Have experience of teaching the core subjects of Maths, English and Science
