Job Title: Principle Systems Engineer

Location: Keynsham, Bristol

Salary: 30,510 - 37,630 + Benefits

Introduction:
My client is one of the UK's leading support services companies. They deliver many key services including design, build,
manage, operate and maintaining assets, supplying customers in a wide variety of industry sectors including Defence,
Marine, Naval and MoD. They now require a Principle Systems Engineer, based in Keynsham, Bristol.

Although not essential this could be well suited to candidates who have previously served in the Armed Forces i.e. Army,
Navy, Royal Air Force, particularly coming from a naval/submarine/dockyard background.

Responsibilities:
- Maintain service for all the Data Centre's Oracle databases and their environments.
- System resource monitoring, user/process loading and the collection of data for performance statistics reports.
- Hardware monitoring.
- Growth management.
- Data health checks and fixing.
- Technically assess and recommend server/data/application upgrade paths and data migration requirements.
- Provide expert Oracle DBA consultancy outside of Keynsham to MOD and commercial customers.
- Ensure software development is undertaken in accordance with the SSMG IT quality plan and procedures.
- Undertake efficient software development through the use of good design and implementation methodologies.
- Undertake module testing to verify developed software performs in accordance with the supporting requirements
documentation.
- Attend workshops/design reviews to discuss the development project and demonstrate progress to date.
- Prepare comprehensive technical and user documentation to support the completed application.
- Provide out of hours support for software releases and patches, when required.

Applicant Requirements:
- It is envisaged that the successful candidate will ideally be educated to Degree level or equivalent in a relevant
discipline.
- Working knowledge of HP-UX, Tru64 Unix, ORACLE and web based application development toolset (Forms 10g, Reports 10g).
- Experience of development and deployment using Oracle Fusion Middleware (11g).
- Understanding of Naval Submarine/Surface Ship management/in-service support processes.
- Design, code, peer review and test new subsystems/modules in accordance with ISO approved procedures and development
standards.
- Disciplined and methodical approach to configuration control of changes to live applications.
- Working knowledge of Oracle RDBMS, Oracle Application Server, Unix system management and ORACLE DBA.
- Development of complex server side PL/SQL code for data input validation and data import/export.
- Extensive experience of the ORACLE web based application development toolset (Forms 10g, Reports 10g).
- Development of Web Applications using Oracle APEX.
