Fantastic opportunity for a Technical / Solutions Architect from an Infrastructure background.

A highly regarded, SME consultancy business is looking for an Infrastructure Technical Architect to service their clients in the Midlands, from Northampton, Leicester, Birmingham through to Nottingham, Derby etc. The Technical Architect will be responsible for design, implementation and operation of one or more of the key infrastructure technologies (data centres, storage, networks, servers, PCs, monitoring or management). The role is covering clients in the Midlands and so living in the Midlands is preferable and it pays £65,000 - £100,000 depending on experience.

You will have carried out architecture roles in infrastructure projects or as part of corporate infrastructure strategy development and will often have led in these areas for end users or clients.

You should have been involved in multiple technologies across major new infrastructure delivery projects or service improvement activities (implementation of multi-tier enterprise hardware platforms, SANs design and migration, Server migrations, Virtualisation, Data Centres, Monitoring, Service Management etc.)

You should be able to speak confidently about the detail of full life cycle projects that you had a lead role in delivering. This will include ability to discuss architectures, design approach taken, delivery approach taken and project management approach taken. They would expect you to be able to talk lucidly on these topics for past projects. Additionally you will be expected to demonstrate where you have taken a lead in managing teams and delivered operational improvements. This will include concrete discussion of cost savings, operational efficiency improvements, team management changes and, above all, a focus on customer service.

From an infrastructure and delivery perspective, they are staunchly vendor neutral and so provide strategy and design services on the large variety of technologies that their clients deploy, including:
* Storage - EMC, HP, NetApp
* Virtualisation - vmWare, Xen and UNIX clustering
* Networking - WAN, LAN from Cisco and other main vendors
* Servers - Blades and other form factors from tier 1 vendors such as Oracle and HP
* Data Centres
* Management tools such as OpenView and Open Source equivalents

You may have vendor or group qualifications such as those from Microsoft, EMC, Citrix, Cisco, VMware or Prince2, Togaf, ITIL etc. These are useful but will not take priority over practical experience during the interview process.

They expect candidates to have worked in multiple IT disciplines - Development, Infrastructure, Support and demonstrated technical excellence in all of these and you should understand the key drivers in successful IT delivery and support.

Ideally you will posses practical knowledge of agile/iterative development methodologies (e.g. SCRUM, XP, DSDM, RUP etc), infrastructure/strategic frameworks such as ITIL and CoBIT and infrastructure delivery methods such as Prince2. You should be able to show real experience / knowledge of some of these approaches and demonstrate man management and client management skills within these contexts.
