Inspire are looking for a [Team of] Unix-AIX/Linux-RHEL Server Subject Matter Expert [SME] to to work as part of our Team
to design and deploy server infrastructure platforms
The ideal candidate will have already worked within an Outsourcer service delivery environment.
Initially a 1 month assignment, based Hatfield, Herts - Immediate Start [May extend to 3 mths]
The key responsibilities of the role include:
Owning the detailed/Low Level Design of specific virtualisation technology solutions from deployment through to handover
and delivery. Working with a 'near-shore' engineering team to deliver the designed solution.
Working wiithin a fast paced programme of projects [currently 16] in partnership with our client's programme office
management, supprted by Inspire PM's and Tech Project Leads.
Key technical skills required:
- Unix in depth experience, AIX mandatory
- Linux in depth experience, RHEL
- Experience of producing design/build documentation Samba file server and Winbind authentication Kickstart build
Scripting
- Understanding of core Internet protocols (eg, TCP/IP, UDP, DNS, SMTP, HTTP, BGP, etc.)
- VMWare Full understanding of technology
- IBM server Hardware - P Series
- IBM AIX v5.3, v6.1 on high end IBM P Series hardware Power 6 and Power 7 CPUs.
- P Series virtualization; large scale LPARs environments, VIO, etc
- Linux - RHEL at an Enterrpise Level
- VMWare Infrastructure, vSphere, vCenter etc
- Be ITIL aware having worked with this framework.
Preferred Certifications:
- IBM Ceritifed Systems Expert
- Redhat RHCE
The role has three key elements:
Design:
* Design efficient solutions that are operationally cost effective to maintain
* Design solutions to availability and resilience targets in line with requirements
* Exploit and develop shared design blueprint and documentation for ongoing reuse
* Ensure that solutions and designs are aligned with both the Outsourcer's Infrastructure and Architecture Group's
service offers and standard products/tools
* Determine server specifications and infrastructure requirements [liaiise with storage, networks and security teams etc]
* Both verbally and in written form articulate solutions and benefits accurately and persuasively reflecting the client's
interests or concerns
* Identify maintenance costs based on effort required, value delivered and client's expectations
* Ensure that the detailed solutions align with client and Outsourcer strategy and SLA's
Implement:
* Fully utilise build automation, remote access deployment
* Fully utilise standard build and repeatable environments (eg server SOE builds and standard core platform
configurations)
* Produce relevant build and configuration documentation to standards
* Prepare physical environments for deployments
* Preparation of test plans & scripts
* Fully engage with service line and programme change control processes
* Identify and develop automation approaches ( repeatable tools and scripts )
Transition:
* Complete operational readiness tasks and ensure production acceptance criteria are met
* Complete build and handover documentation for delivery/support (BAU) teams
The successful applicant will have a solid understanding of:
* Centralized control principles of performance, capacity planning and release management
Core personal qualities required:
The applicant will have a exceptional verbal and communication qualities;
* Able to present and communicate technical designs and solutions to peers
* Interact clearly with on-shore project teams
* Exceptional written skills are required for solution documentation creation for both technical and non-technical
material
* A self-driven team player with a flexible and dynamic style, able to work with minimum supervision as well as perform
under pressure and meet tight deadlines
* A background of infrastructure design engineering and deployment experience in an Outsource service environment
* Own and represent specific solution detailed designs through to deployment and acceptance by delivery
* As an Infrastructure specialist, maintain a thorough understanding of new product features, new solutions and
approaches along with potential business benefits to the architecture team and wider service line
* Continuously innovate and identify solution improvements specifically aimed at reducing the on going operation costs
