Database Consultant/Application Developer - VP - TS Technology - Bournemouth

Team Description
The successful candidate will join a small team based in Bournemouth with a wide-ranging remit to support numerous
applications across the business. The team acts as subject matter experts in all things Oracle across Treasury Services,
both in the area of architecture, and troubleshooting. This involves liaising with AD teams and third parties.

The team is responsible for the provision of service delivery for TS applications running on the Distributed Technology
platforms, and run 24 x 7

Key Responsibilities:

* Driving the design and implementation of a scalable database architecture,

* Helping projects plan and execute major events - such as migrations, upgrades, technology refreshes, etc.

* Driving the introduction of new tools (eg GoldenGate, RAT, Veridata)

* Providing database/application tuning and optimisation expertise,

* Providing expertise in investigating application issues/performance issues,

* Developing and providing database monitoring/investigation tools specific to projects/with cross-project application,

* Ensuring that database application builds meet specifications and are fit for purpose,

* Helping driving continuous improvement in the way the AD and infrastructure groups manage their database estate,

* Proactive capacity and resiliency planning and execution,

* Providing technical assistance during production incidents,

* Driving down database and application failures

* Working with projects to ensure that their releases are viable and fit for purpose,

* Reviewing new Oracle products(eg Exadata) and methodologies with a view to incorporating these into future
release/improving current working practices and methods,

* Challenging old, and developing new working practices,

* Reducing and managing the impact of change in a complex technical environment

Qualifications
Your Background:
You will have, and can demonstrate, experience in working in large, complex and challenging environments, working under
pressure and to deadlines. You will be results driven and take ownership of delivery of solutions/implementations.

Proven knowledge and experience of the following technologies is strongly desirable:-

* Oracle 10G/11g RAC

* ASM

* Backup/HA technologies, such as Dataguard/RMAN etc

* Oracle tool set, such as Datapump etc.

* Replication tools, such as Goldengate

* Database and SQL tuning techniques, including the use of AWRs

* Ability to write, debug and tune SQL/PL/SQL

* OEM

* Understanding and grasp of database/application architecture

* Job scheduling (Autosys)

* Firm understanding of the database infrastructure components (network, SAN, CPU) and their impact on performance
